Xavi set to make adjustment to the squad that stumbled at Bernabeu

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is set to make changes that suffered a defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday evening.

Sergio Busquets is one of the players Xavi is expected to be dropped from the squad, the captain struggled to keep up with the pace and he was blamed for Karim Benzema’s opener after failing to stop Toni Kroos for releasing Vinicius whose first attempt was blocked by goalkeeper Mar Stegen but the rebound fell on Benzema’s path to score for the home team in an open net.

It was also suggested that the captain was out of position for Real Madrid’s second goal via Fede Valverde who has the whole space to strike from the outside box.

The midfielder seems to rotate himself out of the starting line-up in Xavi’s team with Frenkie de Jong looking likely to step in his boots.

Busquets also performed below par against Inter Milan and that has left Xavi with no choice but to bench the World Cup winner and find an ideal replacement.

De Jong did well when he replaced Busquets against Inter Milan and was one of the team’s best players against the Serie A team in their 3-3 draw.

De Jong possesses the ability to be the new anchor man of the team but he has an uncertain future at the club he was initially linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer and the speculation is still on, this will leave Xavi with no option than to dive into in the market to get a suitable replacement for Busquets whose time seems to be up at the Camp Nou.

Frankie Kessie was signed during the summer but he has not made an instant impact on the team despite Busquets’ poor performance.
