AS reactions trail the latest hike in petrol pump price from N500 per litre to N617 per litre, the governor of Ekiti State, Abiodun Oyebanji has pleaded with Nigerians to be patient with the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

According to the Ekiti State Governor, Nigerians sjould exercise more restrain with the Federal Government Tinubu over the difficulties the Fuel Subsidy removal must have caused them.

Speaking with Journalists yesterday in Abuja at the National Assembly after a courtesy call on the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the Senate leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele as well as Ekiti state representatives in the National Assembly, Governor Oyebanji promised that Nigerians would soon get the benefit of their sacrifices.

Ekiti State Governor said, “Nigerians should be patient with President Bola Tinubu, you cannot eat an omelets without breaking an egg, there is no microwave solution to our problem, you must confront these challenges headon.

“You must thank the president for having the courage for taking the bull by the horn. If we are going to get out of this wood we must take very hard decisions.

“I just plead with Nigerians to be patient, very soon they will know that the President meant well.”

Jonathan Meets With Tinubu At Presidential Villa

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Also said to be meeting with the President were the Governors Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara).

While the purpose of the meetings remains unclear, Jonathan’s return to the Villa comes barely a month after his June 13 visit.

Jonathan, who doubles as Head of the ECOWAS Mediation Team to Mali, noted that the visit was to discuss issues pertaining to Africa and the West Africa subregion.

Tinubu receives presidents of Benin, Niger, Guinea-Bissau

The presidents of Benin, Niger, and Guinea-Bissau arrived at the Aso Rock Villa, on Tuesday, to visit their Nigerian counterpart, Bola Tinubu. ⁣

President Patrice Talon of Benin, Mohamed Bazoum of Niger and Umaro Embaló of Guinea-Bissau were received by Tinubu at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.⁣

Soon afterward, he led the West African leaders into a private session at his office. ⁣

While the specific agenda of Tuesday’s meeting is not yet public, it comes barely nine days after President Tinubu assumed the Chairmanship of the Authority of Heads of State of the Economic Community of West African States. ⁣

The leaders are expected to discuss security and economic development in the sub-region.⁣

Tinubu is likely to reiterate his stance on defending democracy in the subregion given the spate of coups in recent years. ⁣

Guinea-Bissau had survived an attempted coup in February 2022. However, the civilian governments of Guinea, Mali and Burkina Faso had been toppled between 2019 and 2022.

Adeleke to swear in commissioners Wednesday

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, will on Wednesday (tomorrow), swears in his newly appointed commissioners.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the Chief of Staff to Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former governor of Osun State, Festus Adeyemo, and two commissioners that served in the state cabinet during the tenure of ex-governor, Rauf Aregbesola, alongside 22 others were unveiled as commissioner-nominees by the State House of Assembly.

The Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, read the names as contained in the letter sent to the lawmakers by Adeleke at the plenary on July 7.

The two members of Aregbesola’s cabinet that made the list are Kolapo Alimi, who served as commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Mr. Biyi Odunlade, who was Special Adviser and later commissioner for Sports.
