The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, who personally made the arrest on Friday, handed over the suspect to the police for further investigation and subsequent legal proceedings. Commissioner Obinabo expressed deep disappointment at the persistence of such acts, despite her previous admonitions to offenders, and vowed not to let any future offenders escape punishment.

During questioning, Ogechukwu claimed that her intention was to assist the 10-year-old girl and her family in raising funds for the child’s medical treatment. According to her statement, the girl suffers from a tumor disease, which has caused her abdomen to protrude. Ogechukwu resorted to using the child for alms begging to gather the required funds for the necessary surgery.

Following the interrogation, Ogechukwu was handed over to the Ogidi Police Division, and the case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka.
