There are reports that El-Rufai wants to be minister to advance his 2027 presidential bid- Source

According to a news that was published yesterday, it was reported that the Nigerian Senate on Monday, delayed the confirmation of the former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as minister over security clearance.

The Senate approved the appointment of 45 out of the 48 ministerial nominees submitted by President Bola Tinubu, as these nominees were confirmed yesterday evening, after the upper legislative chamber concluded the screening of the candidates.

However, according to a news that was published by The Guardian paper online this morning, it was reported that some sources, have given the possible reason why Nasir El-Rufai was not cleared along others yesterday.

A source, who spoke under the condition of anonymity confirmed that, Nasir El-Rufai might have been dropped, because of various petitions that have been written against him, which bothers on security and alleged toxic comments he has made in the public against national interest.

Another source who as well spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Besides, There are reports that El-Rufai wants to be minister to advance his 2007 presidential bid. There are reports against him, that he can not be trusted and he only wanted to accept the ministerial position to be in vantage position to advance his ambition of running for the next presidential election, and he is seen as somebody who will work against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term ambition.”

The source claimed, El-Rufai is not a loyal politician, who should be trusted by Tinubu but, his competence and capacity to deliver on any assignment he was given to do, might have trumped him against political considerations, and fears by some members of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s allies.
