Why Kano Ministerial nominee, Maryam Shetty was replaced – Ganduje

The National Chairman, All Progressive Congress, APC and former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has opened up on why Kano ministerial nominee, Maryam Shetty was replaced.

According to Vanguard news, Maryam Shetty, a Kano ministry contender, was replaced, according to Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, national chairman of the All Progressive Congress and a former governor of Kano State.

He asserts that “the president has people who will advise him from different states and the nation at large during the appointment of ministers. Additionally, the President has the discretion to nominate any candidate for minister. He is also free to speak with state officials, as they are the ones who are familiar with candidates for such positions. You have folks that claim to know everything in the villa, you know.

“So, we just heard the name, all of a sudden. We didn’t contest the decision because we understood that the President had the prerogative to do so and because we are committed supporters of the President who understand democracy and know that patience is a virtue.

“But once more, we don’t know her, and because of that, we can’t vouch for her suitability for the position.

“However, social media is where the problem first gained attention. Sometimes people act in ways they wouldn’t want to be caught. But you’ll be shocked to learn that everyone can see what you do. In this instance, it is what took place. On social media, reactions followed her nomination as people made fun of her.

People began to express very strong opinions and questioned her competence and worthiness to represent Kano State.

“The general public, not Ganduje, expressed these worries. The president asked for my opinion after seeing the responses on social media.

I made it clear to him that I have no idea who she is. I replied in the affirmative when he inquired about the necessity to replace her.

In addition to having honesty, candidates for these roles must also have a thorough understanding of the duties of the post. They should also be able to discuss their participation in the establishment of the government.

We were the ones that needed to be consulted for any appointments coming from Kano State, if you look at these criteria.

“Even though I don’t know all the smart individuals in Kano, at least our opinions ought to be sought when people offer recommendations, but that wasn’t the case in this instance.

The president then gave us the chance to appoint a replacement, emphasising that it must be a woman. We decided on the new nominee, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, after consulting with important stakeholders and after residents of Kano South complained about marginalisation. You can tell where she was from just by hearing the word Bunkure,” he remarked.

However, Ganduje promised that the previous candidate, Shetty, would be taken into consideration for another post.

Remember that Shetty from Kano State had been nominated by President Tinubu for a ministerial appointment, but just hours before her screening, she was withdrawn and replaced by Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, a former commissioner of higher education under the administration of the outgoing governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
