The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the contentious February 25th election, Peter Obi has instructed his lawyers to immediately challenge the ruling of the five-member Presidential Election Petitions Court led by Justice Simon Haruna Tsamani.

Obi disclosed this at a press conference in the commercial town of Onitsha, Anambra state on Thursday in reaction to the PEPC ruling Yesterday, where he copiously acknowledged the Court’s contributions to due process and the seeming attempt to strengthen our democracy.

Obi said “As petitioners in this case, we respect the views and rulings of the Court, but we disagree with the Court’s reasoning and conclusions in the judgment it delivered. It is my intention as a presidential candidate and the intention of the Labour Party to challenge this judgment by way of appeal immediately, as allowed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

JUST IN: Akeredolu returns from medical leave

There is a strong indication that the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has arrived in the country from his medical vacation in Germany.

The governor left the country some months ago for medical treatment in Germany and was said to have returned to the country on Thursday.

The news of his return was confirmed on the X handle of his wife, Betty Akeredolu.

“Homebound,” Mrs Akeredolu captioned his husband’s picture in an airplane.

Also, the Ondo State House of Assembly Majority Leader, Mr Wole Ogunmolasuyi, confirmed Akeredolu’s arrival to our correspondent.

He said the governor was already in his Ibadan residence.

Ogunmolasuyi said, “We thank God the governor has arrived in the country. He landed in Abuja and moved straight to Ibadan.”

Tribunal Verdict: Akeredolu congratulates Tinubu, APC

Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, of Ondo state, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on the verdict of Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), which upheld his victory in the February 25 Presidential Election.

Akeredolu also congratulated his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on the victory.

He described the PEPT judgement as a revalidation of the people’s mandate and the renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu’s administration.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde in Akure, said that “This judgement has again deepened our nation’s jurisprudence and solidified our commitment to democratic values.

“As true democrats, we must embrace the tents of democracy which also encompass post election litigations.

“Our struggle for service must also fuel our reverence for democratic values.

“The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has dispensed Justice. Now is the time to come together and build our nation.

Akeredolu said that “The renewed hope drive of President Tinubu is anchored on assurance of a paradigm shift.

Arewa groups berate calls to sack NNPCL’s Kyari

The Joint Northern Action Groups, have berated calls for the sack of the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL, Mele Kyari, the Executive Vice President (Upstream), Adokye Tombomieye, the Managing Director, of Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) Ali Muhammad Zahra and Managing Director, National Petroleum Investment Management Services, Bala Wunti.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the Group’s spokesperson, Comrade Abdulhameed Enaji, said the oil and gas industry has recorded giant strides under their leadership ranging from pipeline security and reduction of environmental pollution. He said, “We note with deep concern the ongoing campaign by sponsored groups of individuals masquerading as members of fictitious Northern Nigerian Youth groups calling for the removal of Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive of NNPCL. “We are however happy that most discerning Nigerians and of course, the Federal Government appear to dismiss the protest as it was orchestrated by individuals who were only interested in advancing their own selfish interests, and not the collective good of Nigerians.
