Why I Can’t Celebrate My Birthday — Peter Obi

“There is far too much insecurity, violence, and bloodshed. This month alone over 200 lives have been lost to sustained violent attacks in Mangu LGA in Plateau.

The most recent death toll in Benue was 27 people, who were killed in the communities of Adogo Ugbaam, Akpuuna, and Diom in the Ukum LGA.

In numerous other instances, people have been killed and kidnapped around the nation. In a New Nigeria where residents’ lives and property are secured, I want to celebrate.

Daily trust report that, Obi remarked that despite his continued gratitude to God for His unending mercies, he will continue to honour his decision of more than 20 years ago not to celebrate his birthdays in present-day Nigeria due to the status of the country.

The businessman claimed that several of his friends, Labour Party supporters, and OBIdient family members had inquired as to how they might join him in celebrating that day and even give him some gifts.

However, the former governor pleaded with anyone who wished to honour him with gifts of any type to look around them and give such items to those in need, especially now.

“I implore them to visit hospitals, orphanages, homes for the elderly, and facilities for people with disabilities, and offer them such kind gifts,” he stated.

Daily trust report that, “They can also go to basic education institutions in far-off places and provide them with the necessities.

IDP camps can be found all around the nation for those who want to do more.

Obi declared that he meant to follow suit, adding that in addition to helping others who were less fortunate than him with his time and resources, he also intended to raise money for hospitals and schools.

The former governor stated that the leaders and well-placed must now make sacrifices for a better Nigeria, and that the status of the country must prompt them to halt and reflect.
