Reactions As Olanipekun Defends Tinubu’s Electoral Victory In Final Written Address To Tribunal

According to Channels Television, Wole Olanipekun, SAN, counsel to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, has written to the Presidential Election Petition Court to dismiss the petition of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Gregory Obi, and his party.

Olanipekun branded the challengers’ arguments and witness testimonies as “frivolous, bogus, and based on hearsay” in his final written speech in response to Obi and LP’s appeal.

In his written presentation, he asked the court to dismiss the petition because it lacked merit, substance, and legitimacy.

The Legal Luminary also argued that the petitioners’ “remote” contention that his client’s election should be cancelled because he did not receive 25% or one-quarter of the votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is not supported by any fact known to the law because the use of “and” in the constitution is conjunctive, not disjunctive.

As expected, this development elicited reactions on Facebook as it was shared by Channels Television on their official page.

A Facebook user identified as Akpan Esema said, “Let him tender his evidence to back up what he was called to come and defend and not try to tell the tribunal panels what judgement to carry out.”

Orwell Ayo said, “Is he the one to dismiss the court case?”

Pad Lock said, “Just like that? On what grounds should they dismiss it?”

Yusuff Aishat said, “But they were the ones saying they should go to court, so why are you asking the court to dismiss the case?”

Ifeanyi Donatus said, “He is entitled to his opinion.”
