Why Chelsea Fans Are Wrong To Be Outraged As The Club Close In On Signing Another Young Player

Following reports that Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Matheus França from Flamengo, many supporters of the club are furious because they think the club are too concerned about the future and making profits rather than trying to fix their current issues.

The departure of key players like N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Matteo Kovacic, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy this transfer window, means there are big boots to be filled at the club.

Chelsea, instead of bringing in replacements for these stars, have been rather busy signing 17, 18 and 19-year-old players for the future and many fans do not seem to be thrilled by that idea.

But here is the catch and what most fans do not realise. The money the club are using to buy these young boys is basically coming from an entirely different budget than the one for first team players.

And yes, not all of these young players will make it, and the club has a better system in place now to make sure the ones that don’t make it, they will still profit from.

Now, if the issue is that, signing these 17 & 18 year old talents may hurt the academy because young English talents might stop choosing Chelsea because they know they’ll eventually be replaced, then that’s a different issue, but that doesn’t seem to be people’s issue anyway.

One of the main reasons why these fans are critical of this is because Chelsea said they can’t afford Onana or Maignan but they’re signing youngsters everyday.

But what they really mean by “can’t afford” is that they simply don’t want to have two goalkeepers being paid like no.1’s. Mendy was paid like a no.2.

So it makes sense. As much as almost everyone wants a new goalkeeper and other important signings, and the fact that the club has not been able to deliver quickly on that front, has nothing to do with signing these young talents. Nothing.

Besides it’s still July 3rd. I think people need to chill. There’s still a long way to go and signing Matheus França isn’t getting in the way of anything.

França is the of player a club like Benfica or Brighton could sign now and in 3 years, these same fans would be calling on Chelsea to go spend £100m to sign because he’s absolutely sensational and can be a world class.
