"When Obasanjo Was In Charge, Nigeria Avoided Becoming A Stooge To Any Western Power" -Gbadamosi

Amid the ongoing standoff between the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the military junta that has taken control of the Niger Republic, Labour Party chieftain and former gubernatorial candidate, Babatunde Gbadamosi, reflected on former Nigerian military and civilian Head of State, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s adept handling of the country’s international relations during his time in government.

In a tweet shared on his Twitter account on Thursday, August 10, Gbadamosi, who contested the 2019 governorship election under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, praised the way Nigeria, particularly during Obasanjo’s tenures, maintained robust independence in its international relations. This approach, he noted, prevented the nation from being manipulated by foreign powers.

He expressed, “Nigeria has consistently maintained significant independence in its international relations, particularly during Obasanjo’s leadership, and has largely evaded becoming a puppet to any Western influence.”

Interestingly, Gbadamosi’s commentary has stirred a spectrum of reactions among Nigerians, prompting diverse opinions to be shared in the comments section. See some of the reactions below:
