"When Jonathan removed Subsidy in 2012 it was these same leaders that wanted him out- Edwin Clark

In a recent interview with Arise TV, Chief Edwin Clark, a former Niger Delta leader, candidly shared his perspective on the removal of fuel subsidy by President Tinubu’s administration. Clark expressed deep concern over the resultant hardships experienced by Nigerians due to the subsequent rise in fuel and food prices.

Chief Clark drew attention to the irony surrounding the situation. He recalled the year 2012 when then-President Goodluck Jonathan attempted to remove fuel subsidy, only to face fierce opposition from leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who were then in the opposition. Clark pointed out that those same leaders who condemned the subsidy removal under Jonathan are now in power and have taken a similar step themselves.

The former Niger Delta leader emphasized the apparent inconsistency in the APC’s stance, noting that their criticism of subsidy removal in the past contrasts starkly with their current decisions. Chief Clark questioned the fairness of the expectation that Nigerians should readily accept the actions of the current administration, especially when they vehemently opposed similar measures in the past.

The interview with Chief Edwin Clark adds a poignant layer to the ongoing discussions around the removal of fuel subsidy and the impact on the lives of ordinary citizens. It underscores the need for accountability and transparency in governance, and the expectation that leaders remain consistent in their policy decisions, regardless of changing political circumstances.
