What happened to Emefiele after Buhari would never had happened to him under Obasanjo–Jideofor Adibe

Professor Jideofor Adibe, a political science professor at Nasarawa State University, recently expressed that the newly appointed ministers working under President Tinubu will require the president’s support to effectively carry out their responsibilities and take calculated risks.

In a recent interview on Channels television, Prof. Adibe shared his insights…

“To make sure the ministers can do their jobs well and take risks when needed, the president needs to lead the way. As the president, you have to show how things should be done. Additionally, we hope the president will have enough confidence to let the ministers make their own decisions. Only when the ministers feel they have political protection can they confidently take worthwhile risks. For instance, the urban demolitions carried out by El Rufai in Abuja while he was a minister probably wouldn’t have happened if he didn’t have the support of Obasanjo. The same applies to Soludo’s banking consolidation.”

He continued, “If the leader isn’t strong-willed and firm like Obasanjo, none of those initiatives would’ve succeeded. Comparing this to Buhari’s approach, it seems that when policies face intense criticism, Buhari tends to distance himself. This was evident in how he handled the criticism of the naira redesign. Despite initially taking responsibility on national TV, when the pressure was on Emefiele, he seemed absent. Such a situation would never have occurred with Emefiele under Obasanjo’s leadership.

If you compare that to what happened under Buhari, it seems that we’ll, if there’s too much criticism of any policy, Buhari will just throw you under the bus. And we saw it with the way he related with the naira redesign. Even though he came out on public television and owned ownership, when the heat was very much on on Emefiele, nobody saw him. That will never happen to Emefiele under Obasanjo,”he said.
