Akeredolu signs Ondo LCDAs bill into law

The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has signed into law the bill creating 33 Local Council Development Areas in the state.

The bill, which had earlier been approved by the state House of Assembly, was presented to the governor for assent by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr Olamide Oladiji.

A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr Richard Olatunde, on Saturday, noted that the governor’s decision has provided legal support for the establishment of LCDAs in the state.

The establishment of these LCDAs marks a substantial step towards fulfilling Governor Akeredolu’s campaign promises and addressing the aspirations of the people for enhanced grassroots development.

How gunmen killed Rivers DPO – Police

The Rivers State Police Command has vowed to track and prosecute gunmen who ambushed and killed one of its Divisional Police Officers, Bako Angbanshin, in Odumude community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state on Friday night.

The police said Angbanshin led a team of operatives to raid some criminal hideouts in the area and while returning, gunmen suspected to be cultists ambushed them.

The state Commissioner for Police, Emeka Nwonyi, said this in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, on Saturday morning and made available to newsmen.

The PUNCH reports that a viral video surfaced on Friday night showing the moment the gunmen displayed his mutilated body.

Morocco mourns as earthquake’s death toll hits over 1000

Rescuers swung into action yesterday in Morocco hours after a monstrous earthquake struck parts of the country, throwing people from their beds and toppling buildings. No fewer than 1000 were feared dead at the last count with the toll expected to rise. Another 721 were injured, according to the Interior Ministry.

From the G20 meeting in New Delhi, India, President Bola Tinubu sent condolences to King Mohammed VI of Morocco and commiserated with those who lost loved ones and all those otherwise affected by this tragedy.

The coach of the Gambia national football team, Tom Saintfiet who is currently in Morocco, said he feared a plane had crashed into his hotel after experiencing the earthquake which the National Geophysical Institute described as the strongest tremor to hit the North African nation in more than a century.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the epicenter of the earthquake, which hit just after 11 p.m. local time (22:00 GMT), was 75 kilometers (46.6 miles) southeast of Marrakech, at a depth of 18.5 km.

FG explores new approaches to tackling challenges in Niger Delta

The Minister, Ministry of Niger Delta Development (MNDD), Engr. Abubakar Momoh, has disclosed that the ministry is tinkering with a new approach to tackling developmental challenges in the Niger Delta region.

The minister listed insecurity, environmental degradation and human development issues as some of the challenges.

Engr. Momoh made this known when he hosted the Head of the European Union (EU) delegation, Mr. Ruben Alba Aguilera, who paid a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

The minister said the federal government, in-line with its Renewed Hope Agenda, has a number of plans which are being put together for the development of the Niger Delta region.
