Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), expressed his delight at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. He recounted how he had previously expressed confidence that Tinubu would not be ousted.
Wike stated, “Honestly, I am happy; it is a moment of joy, I celebrate with Mr. President.”
During an exclusive interview with Channels Television, Wike explained that he was not surprised by the Petition Court’s decision to uphold Tinubu’s victory. He recalled a previous interview with the same television channel where he questioned why the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was challenging the alleged double nomination of Vice President Kashim Shettima. He also commented on the PDP’s tendency to reject unfavorable outcomes.
Wike pointed out that even the leadership of the PDP was notably absent during the judgment. He found it unusual for the leaders of the main opposition party, including the Vice Presidential Candidate, to be absent from the final Tribunal sitting. He urged Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) to collaborate with President Tinubu to fulfill the renewed hope promised by the former Lagos governor.
