Vote Out Underperforming Governors, Tinubu Charges Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to vote out governors who are not performing up to expectation.

Daily trust report that, The President made the appeal Thursday, at the Presidential Villa, while responding to the request of some Islamic scholars that the Federal Government should monitor the distribution of palliatives given to states to cushion the effects of removal of fuel subsidy.

As the states are closer to the people, Tinubu claimed he could not impose order on them.

He claimed that his only option was to ask governors to carry out the directives provided to them.

Daily trust report that, He disclosed that MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) would get more palliative.

“The citizens of the states. I will still need to go the governors and the municipal governments, even if I put up a panel. We’ll keep having conversations with the governors. They must answer to Nigerians.

“It is unheard of for a president to sit in this position and issue directives to the states in a constitutional democracy. I can only implore them to do it.

The people live in the states, and if the governor isn’t doing a good job, the people must remove them by election, he said.

To mitigate the effects of subsidy removal, the federal government has budgeted N5 billion for palliatives for each state, but there have been worries that certain governors would misuse the system.
