Uzodinma Announces N40,000 Minimum Wage for Imo State Workers

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma on Saturday announced a minimum wage of N40,000 for civil servants in the state.

According to Punch, The governor stated this at the Imo State stakeholders forum held at the Rock view hotel in Owerri.

According to the governor, this is to mitigate the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies on workers.

Public servants deserve to be pampered because they are the engine room of an administration that wants to succeed. My administration will work hand in hand with public employees for the development of the state.

The free coaster buses that take workers from home to office and back home were part of my desire to bring back the glory days of Imo State’s workforce.”

He added, “I am acutely aware that some traders are taking advantage of the economic situation to drive up food prices in the market.” Against this background, the government will soon establish the Imo State Marketing and Commodities Commission (ISMCB) to ensure that groceries are sold at normal prices.

We will accomplish this by establishing a low-cost market in the state where the prices of groceries and commodities will be affordable to the masses. This market will be established in all 27 LGAs of the province.

My government also plans to build low-cost housing estates for low-income salaried workers in the province. This will be established in Mugubidi in Orlu Zone, Nekede in Owerri Zone, and Anara in Okigwe Zone.

‘In the same way, I will introduce a scholarship education committee to educate schools on the brightest pupils whose parents are poor. I have found that most of the brightest children come from poor families and end up not going on to higher education after primary and secondary school.

These bright students are given scholarships to higher education institutions,” he said.
