Peter Obi vs Tinubu: Presidential Tribunal Rules On Scoring 25% In FCT To Win Election

Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) has ruled that the FCT does not enjoy special privileges ahead of other states.

According to Channels Television, Justice Haruna Tsammani, who was appointed to rule on the substantive case brought by Obi and LP, announced this on Wednesday.

The FCT is not more significant than other states in the nation, according to Justice Tsammani.  

Remember that during the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi of the Labour Party received more than 25% of the votes polled in the FCT.     

Channels TV report that, Arguments in favour of and against Section 134 (1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended), which states that in order to be declared duly elected, a presidential candidate must receive a majority of the votes cast in an election where there are two or more candidates and at least 25% of the votes in at least two-thirds of the 36 States and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria.
