Tinubu's Legal Team Clears Air On Certified True Copy Of Tribunal Judgment Bearing Its Watermark

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have addressed the concerns surrounding watermarked documents circulating online, which are purported to be Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the judgment from the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

Babatunde Ogala, the Coordinator of the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team (TPLT), strongly criticized those spreading rumors claiming that the watermarked CTCs were from the APC. He clarified the situation in a statement published by The Punch paper.

Ogala explained that the court-issued copies of the judgment, which included the watermark “Tinubu Presidential Legal Team” (TPLT), were provided to them by the Court of Appeal for easy identification while being distributed to APC attorneys.

He stated, “Following certain malicious insinuations being made in various quarters about the innocent watermark of copies of the Court of Appeal’s consolidated judgment with the inscription ‘Tinubu Presidential Legal Team’ (TPLT), it has become essential to give this explanation.” The Court of Appeal delivered its judgment in three election petitions on September 6, 2023, and ordered its registry to provide physical copies of the judgment.

The Tinubu Presidential Legal Team subsequently requested a Certified True Copy of the said judgment. Upon receiving their copy, they scanned it, added the watermark “Tinubu Presidential Legal Team,” and shared the soft copies with the other attorneys on their team. Importantly, this inscription is not present on the Certified True Copy provided by the court registrar to them and the other parties involved in the petitions, refuting any suggestions to the contrary.
