Uche Nwosu Praises Tinubu For Declared State Of Emergency On Food Security

According to Vanguard, Uche Nwosu, former chief of staff to the Imo state governor and president of the Ugwumba Leadership Center for Africa, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu used the declaration of a state of emergency over food security as a platform to cushion the impact of the fuel subsidy cuts.

Nwosu also praised Tinubu for his decision in a statement, saying it was the right decision.

The statement said, among other things.

The recent declaration of a state of emergency over food security, pricing, and sustainability by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is undoubtedly a welcome development.

Removal of Petrol Motor Spirit (PMS) subsidies on Nigerians and particularly on the household economy.

The current food inflation in the country is a cause for concern for stakeholders as of late there has been growing hope that the government will quickly come up with immediate, durable, and innovative solutions to the resulting plight of citizens.

However, by prioritizing urgent interventions through the declaration of a state of emergency in this area, Mr.President has left no one in doubt that he is a hands-on leader, following developments across the country every day.

He has also shown he is aware of rising food prices and the impact it is having on citizens.

I, therefore, agree with the following key themes in the President’s speech, which stressed:

As a direct and immediate response to this crisis, several initiatives will be taken in the coming weeks to reverse this inflationary trend and secure the future uninterrupted supply of affordable food to ordinary Nigerians.

As with most emergencies, there are immediate, medium- and long-term interventions and solutions.

Nwosu also commended the government’s intention to invest some savings from fuel subsidy elimination in the agricultural sector, focusing on agricultural sector transformation, as well as Immediately release fertilizers and grain to farmers and households to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal.
