"I wonder Whenever They Say Tinubu Rigged Election, When Those In Power Did Not Want Him" -Asari Dokubo

Asari Dokubo, a former commander of the Niger Delta insurgency, is sceptical of the allegations of electoral rigging levelled against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023. Dokubo said in an interview that he is always surprised when people make comments like that, especially given the balance of power in an election.

Dokubo stressed that the country’s elites made every effort to secure Tinubu’s electoral loss. He claimed that Tinubu’s name wasn’t on the ballot, prompting many to wonder how he could have manipulated a vote in an election he wasn’t even running in.

Dokubo defended his position by citing the measures taken against influential persons following the announcement of the election results. As a result of Tinubu’s reported win, the head of the EFCC and the head of the Central Bank have been taken into custody. Dokubo claimed that these moves showed that the ruling elite did not want Tinubu to win.

In addition, Dokubo stated that widespread rigging favouring Tinubu’s opponents was orchestrated in Lagos State and Abuja. Despite these purported setbacks, Tinubu ultimately prevailed, and his influence on Nigerian politics is still felt to this day.

since people think Tinubu manipulated the election, I often wonder how he can believe it since the powers that be did everything in their ability to prevent Asiwaju from being president in 2023. That Asiwaju wasn’t even a candidate, yet they let him rig the election in his favour?

The question then became, “If people in authority rigged the election for Asiwaju, will he be arresting the EFCC chairman and governor of the Central Bank? Despite the best efforts of the force behind the rigging in Lagos State and Abuja, Tinubu was declared the winner. With Asiwaju’s triumph, Nigeria is now different.
