Two Bishops Down: The Anglican Church in Crisis

The Anglican Communion of Nigeria has lost two Bishops within the last 24 hours.

The deceased are Archbishop of Lagos Province, Anglican Communion and Bishop of Lagos Diocese, Most Reverend Humphrey Olumakaiye and Bishop of Ndokwa Diocese, Rev’d David Obiosa.

Segun Ladeinde, the Synod Secretary, and Justice Adedayo Oyebanji, the Chancellor, both made the announcement of his passing.

The specifics of his funeral would soon be made public, according to a statement that was co-signed by Ladeinde and Oyebanji.

“His Episcopal sojourn in the Diocese of Lagos and subsequently the Province was marked by remarkable, physical and spiritual developments, for which all of us shall remain very proud,” the statement adds.

The dead was a January 28, 1969, birth date.

In February 2018, he was chosen to be translated into the Diocese of Lagos, and in the same year, he was installed as the ninth Bishop of Lagos.

At the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos, Olumakaiye was crowned.

He was formally installed in the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Gwarimpa, on September 25, 2021, making him the Archbishop of the Province of Lagos as well.

On Monday night, DAILY POST also learned about Bishop Obiosa’s passing.

The specifics of his passing and burial have not been made public as of the time this article was filed.
