‘FG has not met our demands, we hope next government prioritizes education’ – ASUU boss, Osodeke

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has again asserted that the Federal government has not fulfill its demands despite calling off its eight months old strike action.

This was made known by Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, the National President of the educational union during a conversation with DAILY POST of recent, while expressing optimism that the incoming government would resolve those demands.

In brief, he said: “The Federal Government has not met our demands. The N320.3 billion is not part of our demands, it is what we fought for in 1994. It is not Federal Government’s funding; it is funded by the public sectors, by taxpayers. Our plan is to see how we can interact with the next government with the hope that the next administration would have education as its priority unlike the current government that does not care about education”.

It would be recalled that in 2022, ASUU embarked on a strike action due to the Federal government’s inability to meet up with its demands which include: payment of salaries and allowances, revamping of public universities amongst others.
