Tribunal: I Just Listened To The Judgment & Saw How Court Relied On Letter Written To APC By Shettima– Kenneth Okonkwo

Veteran Nollywood actor and Labour Party Chieftain, Mr. Kenneth Okonkwo, has expressed his concerns regarding the recent judgment delivered by the Presidential Election Petition Court. In his statement, Okonkwo stated how the court relied on a letter of withdrawal written by Kashim Shettima to the APC on July 6, 2023, as evidence of his intention not to be nominated for both the Borno Central Senatorial seat and the Vice Presidential seat.

Okonkwo pointed out that this reliance on the letter may not take into account the fact that on July 10, in Daura, Bola Tinubu openly announced Shettima as the Vice-Presidential candidate, and Shettima was reportedly unaware of this decision at the time.

He questioned how someone could withdraw their nomination from the Senate when they were not even aware that they would be nominated for the Vice-Presidential seat. Okonkwo suggested that this discrepancy raises doubts about the timing and authenticity of the withdrawal letter, implying that it may have been written after the respondents realized they were in trouble due to the double nomination provision.

Okonkwo reaffirmed the need for logical evaluation of evidence in election petitions and argued that judgments in such cases should be concluded before candidates are sworn into office.
