Top security official says Iran ready to help end Ukraine war

In response to a request from Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Russian National Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev arrived in Tehran on Tuesday night (SNSC).

In addition to his host and counterpart, the secretary of Russia’s National Security Council was scheduled to meet with a number of other influential political and business leaders from Iran to discuss bilateral relations and world affairs of shared interest.

Representatives from several Russian business associations followed Patrushev.

In the areas of energy, transportation, agriculture, commerce, finance, and the environment, Shamkhani noted the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Shamkhani said in reference to the Ukrainian situation that Iran “welcomes and supports any proposal that leads to a truce and peace between Russia and Ukraine based on dialogue and is willing to play a role in ending the war.”

He advocated for the establishment of collaborative and synergistic institutions to deal with sanctions, as well as the activation of international institutions’ powers to combat both nations that impose sanctions and those that receive them.

According to Patrushev, “during the four meetings in the current year, the presidents of the two countries have emphasized the unwavering will of Tehran and Moscow in promoting bilateral relations to a strategic level.” He also expressed satisfaction with the acceleration of cooperation between the two countries in a number of fields.

The Russian National Security Secretary presented a report on the Ukraine issue as a way to wrap up his remarks, saying, “From the onset of the conflict in Ukraine, the Western media empire swore to upend the facts in an effort to promote deviation in world public opinion regarding the outbreak of the Ukraine crisis and its battlefield realities.”
