Wike Begins mobilization to throw Atiku, Tambuwual out of PDP

Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has renewed his onslaught against fellow members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, loyal to its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

This time, around, Wike is calling on the party’s National Working Committee to suspend Atiku, erstwhile Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign, Senator Waziri Tambuwal among others from the party. Wike made the call in an interview on a Channels Television political program, Politis Today, on Thursday. He also dismissed former PDP presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, as politically irrelevant noting that Momodu can’t win an election in his local government area.

The former Rivers State Governor also used the opportunity to commend the Justices of the Presidential Election Petition Court for a job well done. According to him, the judgment that affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s victory was profound as it was based on sound judgment in terms of technicality and practicality.

Players lament over NPFL shift

Nigeria Professional Football League clubs have resolved to organize more friendly games for their teams following the indefinite postponement of the 2023/24 season which was scheduled to start on Saturday, September 9, The PUNCH reports.

The league suffered another postponement on Wednesday with the league board citing exigencies around sponsorship as well as the Nigeria Football Federation annual general meeting for the decision. However, the league body is yet to announce a new date for the commencement of the new NPFL season.

Despite the indefinite shift in date, clubs can’t embark on another break having resumed for pre-season about a month ago, as many of them are lining up more tune-up games to keep their players in shape with the hope that a new date will be announced soon.

Bayelsa polls: INEC to begin distribution of uncollected PVCs

Ahead of the Bayelsa State November 11, governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said it would begin the distribution of uncollected Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, next week.

State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Obo Effanga, who disclosed this when he addressed newsmen at the state INEC headquarters, Yenagoa, yesterday, assured residents of the state of the readiness of the commission to conduct a free, fair, and credible election.

According to Effanga, eligible voters, who have not collected their PVCs would have an opportunity to do that from September 11 to October 9, said: “In registration areas also known as wards, where we have more than 500 PVCs that have not been collected, those cards will be available at those registration area centers for the voters to collect their PVCs and the exercise will last from September 11 to October 10.

Some bandits in the late hours of Thursday allegedly invaded St. Raphael Parish in Fadan Kamantan, Kafanchan Diocese in Southern Kaduna, and razed the parish house with a Seminarian, Na’aman Danlami.

It was learned that while some priests escaped during the incident, Danlami, who was a seminarian, was caught in the inferno. His remains had since been deposited in the mortuary. There was no official confirmation yet from either the state Government or Kaduna State Police Command.

However, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Kaduna State, Rev. John Hayab, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone. “Sadly, killings and this type of evil are still going on,” Hayab said.
