A Niger Delta Leader, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, on Wednesday, said his group came out to show solidarity with President Bola Tinubu because the petitions against him were frivolous and lacked substance.

Dokubo spoke to the Agency of Nigeria (NAN) outside the premises of the Appeal Court Headquarters, Abuja, venue of the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC).

The ex-militant, who gathered with his group, the Ijaw Youths for BAT in collaboration with National APC Supporters Centre and Northern Youths Network for Asiwaju, along the Shehu Shagari Way directly opposite the Head of Service Building, said he was hopeful that the case would be decided in their favour.

“We are here to show our presence in the court. We know that the case will be decided in our favour.

“The case is frivolous; they don’t have any substance in their case.

“But if you don’t come, they will come here and start to misbehave. And that is why we came.

“You have seen the overwhelming majority (pointing to members of his group); you can’t find them anywhere,” he said.

He spoke in Abuja at a dialogue to mark the 60th birthday of National Secretary of Alliance for Democracy (AD), and Fellow of Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Prof Udenta Udenta.

Jonathan noted there was no commitment to integrate Nigeria into an entity with common philosophy.

“There was no commitment to integrate Nigeria into an entity that you can say yes, this is a nation with common philosophy …” he said.

According to him, the country was so polarised especially during early party formation as the parties mostly had regional bias.

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, on Tuesday, said President Bola Tinubu’s economic decisions in the past 100 days in office are yielding positive results.

Shettima made the assertion to a cross-section of stakeholders in the banking and finance sector at the opening of the 16th Annual Banking and Finance Conference themed, ‘Nigeria’s Economic Growth and Empowerment: The Role of The Financial Services Industry’.

He noted that the aftermath of the petrol subsidy removal and the unification of the exchange rate availed state and federal governments substantial allocations.

“I must announce with pride that our decisions are already yielding tangible results, with both state and federal governments now enjoying more substantial allocations,”

The Vice President, who was the special guest of honour at the conference held in Abuja, spoke on the topic, ‘Our Priorities in a Post-Pandemic World’.

Shettima’s remarks came barely three weeks after the National Economic Council, which he chairs, approved N5bn for states and the Federal Capital Territory to procure food items for distribution to the poor in their respective domains.

The Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, Prophet Solomon Alao, has advised President Bola Tinubu to lead ECOWAS in identifying and fighting the root causes of military coup in Africa instead of threatening war after the collapse of democracy in member-states.

He said no life of a Nigerian soldier should be sacrificed to keep any West African President in power when some of them have violated all tenets of democratic principles in their respective countries.

The clergyman spoke against the military coup in the republic of Niger and Gabon and ECOWAS decision of using military option if negotiations failed in restoring Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum in office.

He said ECOWAS should be more interested in preventing military interventions than fighting the consequences of bad governance and respect for the rule of law by some African leaders.
