Imo Guber: LP Warns Apapa-led Group Over A’Court Judgment

The Imo State chapter of the Labour Party has issued a statement addressing the Lamidi Apapa-led group’s misinterpretation of the ruling from the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The Court had directed the parties involved in the leadership dispute to maintain the status quo. The Labour Party emphasized that the Appeal Court’s decision is a significant setback for the Apapa-led group and Basil Maduka, who is contending for the Imo state governorship candidacy.

The party had appealed to the Court of Appeal to overturn the comments made by the trial court at the Federal High Court Owerri, asserting that Senator Athan Achonu had won the party’s primaries.

In the ruling on Thursday, the Court of Appeal Owerri, sitting in Abuja, stated that the Labour Party’s appeal was unnecessary, as the trial court’s decision favored them. The Court held that the trial judge’s comments were not a judgment and should be disregarded. The party accused Lamidi Apapa of distorting the clear judgment of the appellate court and misleading the public.

Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, clarified that neither the Federal High Court Owerri nor the Court of Appeal Owerri made any orders beyond dismissing the plaintiff (Basil Maduka) for lack of locus standi.

In a statement, he urged Labour Party members, loyal supporters, and the public to distance themselves from the compromised members of the party who have been ousted.

It’s Unfair for Tinubu to Give Southeast Only 5 Ministerial Slots – Amb. Ogbuewu

Ambassador Frank Nchita Ogbuewu, a former Ambassador to Greece and former Minister of Culture and Tourism, expressed his dissatisfaction with President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to allocate only five ministerial positions to the Southeast geopolitical zone. President Tinubu’s list of ministerial nominees submitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation consisted of seven nominees from the North-west, while the North-east, North-central, South-west, and South-south received six slots each. The South-east was allocated just five slots. Out of the 48 nominees on the list submitted in two batches, only 45 successfully underwent scrutiny and received confirmation.

In an interview with THE SUN, Amb. Ogbuewu stated that while it is the President’s prerogative to appoint individuals, some of the nominees on the list might not have deserved inclusion. His sentiments aligned with those of the apex Igbo sociocultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which criticized the allocation of only five ministerial positions to the Southeast. He expressed, “I believe the Southeast deserves better than that.”
