Gov Abiodun meets Bosun Tijani in Ogun

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has met with the incoming Minister of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani.

Tijani visited Abiodun in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Friday, barely two days after President Bola Tinubu announced him as his Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.

Speaking about their meeting, Abiodun said: “While receiving the Minister-Designate for Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, I highlighted several commendable initiatives undertaken by our government in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development.”

The endeavours, Abiodun said, included the establishment of a tech hub and the launch of the Digital Economy Infrastructure Programme, which involved the installation of fibre optic cables throughout the state.

Delta police foil abduction, rescue victim

Men of the Delta State Police Command have rescued unhurt a kidnapped victim in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the State as the security operatives, through intelligence, foiled the abduction process.

PUNCH Metro gathered that on August 17, 2023, at about 20.35 hours, the Divisional Police Officer, Oghara police station received information from members of the community that some persons suspected to be kidnappers were sighted in a white Benz GLK with reg. No ABC-448-HC around the Ogharake community.

Consequently, the DPO swiftly mobilised and led a team of the Command’s Anti-cult unit alongside the divisional patrol team to the area with the support of community youth and local vigilantes.

It was gathered that the team embarked on a serious patrol of the area until about 2150 hours when the policemen sighted the said vehicle and on getting closer to the vehicle, the hoodlums abandoned the car and escaped into the bush.

The spokesman for the command, DSP Bright Edafe said in a signed statement that upon search of the vehicle, the kidnapped victim was rescued by the operatives.

NEMA Distributes Relief Items To Flood Victims, Others In Katsina

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Friday distributed empowerment and relief items to the 2022 flood victims across twenty-two local government areas of Katsina State.

The items distributed include grinding machines, sewing machines, water pumping machines, insect and pesticides, mattresses, bed sheets, mats, rice, crops, and cooking oil among other items.

While flagging off the exercise at the premises of the Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), NEMA’s Distribution Supervisor, Ummuna Ahmed, said the special intervention is meant to cushion the effect of hardship the victims faced during the period under review.

She announced that NEMA has been putting in place a lot of effort to create awareness among people living in flood-prone areas for them to be extra careful and get prepared for the possible flood.

She, therefore, advised people to shift from the lower ground to higher ground for their own safety and that of their property.

‘Timely intervention’ — Ondo commends FG on N5bn palliative for states

The Ondo state government has described the N5billion palliative fund for states as a timely intervention.

On Friday, the federal government announced a N5 billion palliative for each state and the federal capital territory (FCT) to cushion the impact of the petrol subsidy removal.

In a statement, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the acting governor of the state, said the support from the federal government would go a long way in helping states to meet the challenges of providing necessary relief for their citizens.

“Members of the council were full of praises for the president on the timely intervention regarding the N5 billion support for each of the states which is basically to provide food items and agricultural inputs,” he said.
