The Kogi State Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dino Melaye, has said the party remains the party to beat in the upcoming election because of the level of devastation being left behind by the outgoing All Progressives Congress(APC) administration.

He said this after a meeting of Kogi PDP stakeholders from the three Senatorial zones of the state, with the members of the National Working Committee at the party‘s national secretariat, in Abuja yesterday.

Melaye said: “PDP is going to win the election in Kogi State because we have never had it so bad in the history of Kogi State. Our people were impoverished, salaries have not been paid, pensions have not been paid, gratuity has not been paid, the health sector is non-existent, in fact, all the General Hospitals in the state are mere consulting clinics.

“Education has gone moribund, this is what the PDP is coming to ameliorate and palate.”

“I want to assure you that by the grace of God. With the resolutions of this meeting, with the strategy adopted in this meeting, PDP is good to go in Kogi State.

My charge to Kogi State is that they should not be Intimidated by the APC, by the threat, violence, the humiliation by the APC should not deter them from exercising their Democratic rights. I want to assure you that we will protect our people.”

Earlier in his remarks, the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun, expressed confidence that the party will emerge victorious.

According to him, the party’s leadership decided to convene the meeting in order to ensure that no stone was left unturned to ensure every party member and supporter in the state was onboard before the election

Suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has asked a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, to put an end to further prosecution from the Federal Government, through the Department of State Services.

Emefiele was arraigned by the DSS on July 25 for allegedly possessing a firearm illegally. He was ordered to be remanded in custody and admitted to bail, but the DSS then re-arrested him.

Emefiele is seeking an order from the court clearing him of all charges brought against him by the DSS in a new application before Justice Nicholas Oweibo. His attorneys, led by Mr Joseph Daudu, SAN, claim that the DSS’s actions were in “brazen disobedience” of the court orders granting him bail on July 25, 2023.

He also requested an order barring the Federal Government from receiving any future judicial indulgences unless and until it complies with the bail finding.

The Plateau government has established a Security and Information Centre (SIC) to provide the residents access to report security developments in their location.

According to NAN, Gov Caleb Mutfwang said that the centre would bridge the communication divide between the general public and the government and enable Plateau to address its security challenges.

A statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mt Gyang Bere, on Thursday in Jos, reported the governor as stating this during the inauguration of the centre.

Since the new administration of the government, the state has been burdened with continuous attacks in some communities in Mangu Local Government Area and other parts, where more than 300 people had been killed.

He said that the centre, established by the Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (PICTDA), was adopting a toll-free hotline for information sharing.

According to the statement, the centre, which is already operational, will serve as a channel for the government to obtain early warning signals and intervene promptly and swiftly.

He added that it would enable gathering feedback on development matters within the state for appropriate action.
