Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, says the judiciary is facing an unprecedented blackmail and intimation over the presidential election petitions, saying that the blackmail is not necessary since there is still opportunity for an appeal at the Supreme Court.

Falana, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today, on Monday, said there is no election petition that has attracted such attention in the country since colonial rule.

“We have been having election petitions since the colonial era, but none has attracted such level of blackmail and intimidation of the judiciary.

“I am worried that people give the impression that everything ends with the judgement of the Court of Appeal, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. Any party that loses on Wednesday still has the opportunity to appeal to the Supreme Court. So, what is the basis for the cheap blackmail that is going on?” the senior lawyer queried.

Chief Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that Present Bola Tinubu performed badly in the area of economy in his 100 days in office.

George who spoke during an interactive session with journalists on Monday also noted that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) shouldn’t pronounce anybody as winner since the electoral process was faulty.

He said, “I asked the question when I was talking about who is the chief economic adviser of Bola Tinubu. Is he a voodoo economist? Is he a medieval economist? Basic theory in economics says that too much money chasing too few goods would lead to hyperinflation. He gave N5 billion each to the 36 states as palliatives. Who took that decision? Lagos State has over 22 million in population. Bayelsa State is about 2 million in population, and the two states got the same amount. Kano State which has a massive population is the same as Jigawa State which has less population. Is it money for the boys or money for the people?

Free Grain Exports To Africa To Begin In ‘Weeks’, Says Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday that Moscow is just weeks away from supplying free grain to six African countries after scrapping a deal allowing Ukrainian food exports through the Black Sea.

His comments during a press conference with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi came hours after Russian forces pounded one of Ukraine’s key grain-exporting hubs overnight with a swarm of attack drones.

Erdogan told Putin that Turkey and the United Nations had prepared new proposals aimed at addressing Russia’s problems with the deal, adding he hoped to reach a workable solution “soon”.

But Putin reiterated that Russia would only return to the landmark accord when its demands were met and instead gave details of the plan for shipments to Africa.

“We are close to completing agreements with six African states, where we intend to supply foodstuffs for free and even carry out delivery and logistics for free,” Putin said.
