Tinubu Writes Reps, Seeks N500bn Approval For Palliatives

President Bola Tinubu has written to the National Assembly, seeking an amendment to the 2022 supplementary appropriation Act.

Tinubu, in a letter to the House of Representatives, said the amendment was to allow the Federal Government to source N500 billion for palliatives to cushion the effect of subsidy removal on Premium Motor Spirit known as petrol.

During plenary on Wednesday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read Tinubu’s letter, titled, Request for the amendment of the 2022 appropriation act.

According to the President, the money would be sourced from the 2022 supplementary Appropriation Act of N819.5 billion. This is coming about six weeks after Tinubu announced that the payment of subsidy on petroleum was over.

The Senate has joined other Heads of Government of ECOWAS member states and in particular parliaments of member states to congratulate President Bola Tinubu on his emergence as the Chairman of ECOWAS at the recently concluded 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS held in Bissau, capital of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

The Upper Chamber has also felicitated all Nigerians, friends and allies of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on this great honour and privilege position of Chairman of ECOWAS cinched by President Bola Tinubu recently. It was sponsored by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, APC, Kano North.

In his presentation, Senator Barau said that, the Senate notes with great felicitations, the emergence of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Tinubu, GCFR as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

This took place at the recently concluded 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS held in Bissau, capital of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

Police arrest officers for assaulting man in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two officers attached to the command over a trending video on social media that captured them assaulting a man identified as Iyke, in Oyibo Local Government Area of the state.

The CP, in a statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the officers involved were currently at the Command undergoing trial for their unprofessional act, a step he said would serve as a deterrent to other police officers.

The statement appealed to the victim to come forward to the Command Public Relations Department, to give his statement and aid the conclusion of the investigation, assuring that his identity will be protected.

The man who captured the incident described the action of the policemen as similar to the operation of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Persistent Vandalism Of NNPCL Pipelines Will Cause Petrol Scarcity, Marketers Warn

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Ejigbo Satellite Depot, has warned of possible scarcity of petrol except the government acts fast to address rampant third party infringement of pipelines at Idimu, Alimosho Local Council Development Area of Lagos.

The IPMAN Ejigbo Satellite Depot chairman, Mr Akin Akinrinade, disclosed that some vandals, who were found scooping petrol on System 2B pipeline in front of Good Luck Estate, Idimu, absconded when the security agents tried to apprehend them.

According to Akinrinade, IPMAN appreciated the effort of the security agencies in apprehending the culprits.

He, however, urged the security agencies involved in investigating the unpatriotic act to take the investigation to a logical conclusion and justice is served appropriately.

He called on Lagos State government, whose duty it is to protect lives and properties within its jurisdiction, to be proactive in protecting the NNPCL pipelines, within the state.
