Tinubu to attend AU meeting in Kenya on Saturday

President Bola Tinubu is expected to travel to Nairobi, Kenya on Saturday July 15, to participate in the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (5thMYCM) of the African Union (AU), the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), the Regional Mechanisms (RMs), and the African Union Member States.

As the Chairperson of ECOWAS, the Nigerian leader will join Heads of State and Government, Foreign Ministers of the AU Member-States, and high-level dignitaries at the mid-year meeting which will take place on Sunday, July 16.

Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, explained that the President will present a report on the status of regional integration in ECOWAS, highlighting actions carried out during the period under review by ECOWAS institutions, member-states, the private sector, and other stakeholders to deepen integration through trade, free movement of persons, investment promotion, infrastructure development, peace, security and stability.

According to the statement, the 5th MYCM, which is convening under the AU’s theme for 2023 christened “Acceleration of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Implementation,” will bring together the Bureau of the AU Assembly, comprising the Heads of State and Government from Comoros, Botswana, Burundi, and Senegal, as well as the leaders of the eight RECs.

Bishop Kukah, Now Partisan Politician; APC Chieftain

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, has abandoned his vocation and has become a full time politician, so says APC Chieftain Dr. Garus Gololo, with an indication that the acclaimed clergy man has drifted away from shepharding his flock to join politics as a profession.

The retired Army general said this in an exclusive interview with The Sun in Abuja, while expressing displeasure over Kukah’s dispositions on political issues and day to day governance in Nigeria.

Recall that the duo of former President Abdulsami Abubakar and the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Hassan Kukah, each election year champions the signing of peace accord among political parties, targeted at having peaceful pre-election, during and after elections.

According to the former member of APC Board of Director, Bishop Kukah, has failed to adopt and maintain this peaceful atmosphere they preach in Nigeria by this act of meddlesomeness recorded on the daily bases.

Dr Gololo, alleged that “he Bishop Kukah, has abandoned his calling of keeping the flocks to being a full time politician. Iam convinced that he is already making arrangements to pick forms to contest for one political positions come 2027. If not, why should a clergy man seen to be a peace maker get deeply involved in day to day governance wit divisive utterances in the country”.

APP faults call for INEC chairman’s sack

Action People’s Party (APP) has faulted the call by Labour Party (LP) for the sack of the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, describing it as baseless.

The LP, at a pres briefing, on Thursday, called for punitive action against Mahmood, and other top INEC officials, as well as investigation of donor funds received by the commission for the conduct of the last general elections.

Nevertheless, APP in a statement by its National Chairman, Uche Nnadi, expressed support to the INEC chairman. Nnadi said that rather than attacking the electoral body, political parties should on politicians, who were involved in electoral violence and voters during the last general elections.

According to him, the LP was indicting itself by calling on the international community to take “punitive action” against Yakubu and other top officials of the electoral body over the 2023 polls, whereas the party won gubernatorial, national and state assembly elections.

Nnadi admonished LP to be circumspect in its utterances, especially as it currently in court stay challenging the outcome of the presidential election.

Olu of Warri to meet group over development in Warri kingdom

Olu of Warri Ogiame Atuwatse III has extended an open invitation to an Itsekiri group, Iwere Consultative Forum to meet with him at the palace.

The monarch in his open invitation made available to the Vanguard said the group should seek an appointment with him through his Back office, adding that he had always attended to mails addressed to him.

The letter signed by Head Back Office , Mr Oriiz Onuwaje reads in part.
