Keyamo’s name as a ministerial nominee was announced on Friday.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, met in Lagos on Thursday with the commission’s administrative secretaries to review the 2023 general elections.

Yakubu said the meeting was to identify some of the administrative issues that affected INEC’s performance in the last general elections.

He said, “This meeting is to identify the areas of strength with a view to consolidating where necessary.

“Also, the meeting with the administrative officials was to identify the weakness, in other to come up with actionable recommendations for improvement in future elections.

“Therefore, based on the feedback from the public, the commission has also identified these challenges and how to resolve them for future elections.

“Among them were late arrival of election materials to some polling units, inefficient service at polling units by trained officials, management of the BVAS technology, and insecurity of facilities and personnel,” he said.

Yakubu explained that to achieve prompt collation of poll results nationwide at the appointed hour, the administrative officers in their respective states must get their logistics right.

Troops destroy bandits’ den in Kaduna, rescue abductees

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued at least four kidnapped victims and destroyed bandits’ camps in the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 1 Division Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Musa Yahaya, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Yahaya said the kidnapped victims were rescued by the troops on Monday.

“In continuation of its sustained operation against bandits, kidnappers, castle rustlers and other criminal elements in the North-West, troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army, acting on credible intelligence, carried out a clearance operation in the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Ministerial List: Matawalle’s nomination revives APC in Zamfara, says Shinkafi

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Sani Shinkafi, has described President Bola Tinubu’s nomination of former Zamfara Governor, Dr Bello Matawalle, for a ministerial position as a significant move that has revived the confidence of party members in the state.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Shinkafi said that this move was a commendable development and a beacon of hope for the party faithful in the North-West region.

According to him, Dr. Matawalle is a proven leader and administrator who is expected to bring significant value to President Tinubu’s government.

He added that as Nigerians eagerly await the dividends of democracy, Dr. Matawalle’s extensive experience in politics, including his roles as a commissioner, three-time member of the House of Representatives, and the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, would be a valuable asset for Tinubu’s administration.

He stressed that during his tenure as the Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Matawalle successfully garnered the highest number of votes for Tinubu in the entire North West region, despite notable security challenges.
