President Tinubu Sets New Minimum Wage for Workers

President Bola Tinubu is working towards implementing a new minimum wage policy in Nigeria that could potentially double the current salaries of workers.

Ajuri Ngelale, the special adviser on media and publicity to President Tinubu, revealed this information in a recent interview.

The government is committed to alleting economic challenges faced by the Nigerian populace, and one of the measures being taken is the revision of the minimum wage.

While Ngelale refrained from preempting the work of the minimum wage committee, he stated that President Tinubu wants nothing less than a doubling of the current minimum wage.

This indicates a significant increase in income for workers if the proposed policy is successfully implemented.

The administration has also been proactive in providing financial support to the states. Since the start of President Tinubu’s tenure, governors across the federation have received a substantial sum of N300 billion to help manage economic challenges.

The Falcons played a goalless draw against Ireland to finish second in Group B with five points behind co-hosts Australia, while Banyana Banyana also finished second behind Sweden in a group that had Italy and Argentina crashing out. On Thursday, Morocco joined them in the round of 16 after beating Colombia 1-0 in their last group match at the Perth Rectangular Stadium.

It is the second win for the Moroccans at the Mundial after they defeated the Korean Republic 1-0 on match-day two.The victory means it is the first time an African team will win two games at the Women’s World Cup since Nigeria’s Super Falcons achieved the feat in 1999 and also the first time that the continent will have three representatives in the knockout stage.

Coalition of South East Youth Leaders has appealed to the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Abia State, Okey Ahiwe to withdraw his petition against the winner, Alex Otti.

The coalition stated this in a statement by its president general, Goodluck Ibem, yesterday in Umuahia, saying, “Ahiwe and the former ruling party should allow the people of the state to breathe”.

“His petition against the victory of the Labour Party candidate is a distraction to both the governor and the people of the state and should not be allowed to continue.

“Otti’s mandate is divine and any distraction against it from any quarters will not be tolerated by the people who over the years have been longing for democracy dividends from their governors.

“It beats our imagination that Ahiwe has choosen to be an agent of distraction by not letting the people breathe his needless petition before the election petitions tribunal.”

“We call on Ahaiwe, Ikpeazu and his co-travelers to withdraw this distractive petition against Otti and also to return all properties and funds they looted from the government while leaving office,” the statement added.

Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan was arrested at his home in Lahore on Saturday after a court in the capital found him guilty of graft and sentenced him to three years in jail.

The former international cricket star has long warned he would be arrested to prevent him from participating in elections that are due to be held before the end of the year.

Anyone convicted of a criminal offence is usually disqualified from contesting elections or holding office in Pakistan.

“His dishonesty has been established beyond doubt,” judge Humayun Dilawar wrote in a ruling seen by AFP for a case centred on gifts he received and did not properly declare while he was premier.

“He has been found guilty of corrupt practices by hiding the benefits he accrued from national exchequer willfully and intentionally.”

In May, Khan was arrested and briefly detained in Islamabad for the same case, sparking deadly unrest during which supporters of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party poured onto the streets and clashed with police.
