PEPT Judgment: Atiku, Obi head to Supreme Court

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party, LP, counterpart, Mr. Peter Obi, yesterday, vowed to go to the Supreme Court to challenge the dismissal of their petitions against President Bola Tinubu’s election by the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC.

While Atiku said he was heading to the apex court because he had lost a battle and would confront the war ahead and not “validate mandate banditry” Obi said he would not relent in his quest for electoral justice because the PEPC ruling “is not coterminous with justice.”

Atiku and Obi spoke as mixed views welcomed the PEPC’s Wednesday judgment that affirmed Tinubu’s election and struck out the petitions of the PDP, LP, and Allied Peoples Movement, APM.

Government orders closure of Osun Poly

Osun State Government has ordered the closure of The Osun State Polytechnic, Iree Campus, for two weeks.

The directive for the closure is coming following the return of suspended Rector, Tajudeen Odetayo. The order for closure was issued by the state government in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole on Thursday.

This is to inform the general public, particularly members of staff and students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree to proceed on a two-week break, with immediate effect. The immediate break is a necessary action to maintain peace in the Institution consequent upon the forceful return of the suspended Rector, Dr. T.A. Odetayo.

Ogbuku vows to transform Niger Delta

The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, on Wednesday, urged its staff members to support his vision for the region.

While thanking President Bola Tinubu for regaining confidence in him by reappointing him as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDDC, he pledged to work hard with the support of staff to meet the President’s expectations. The PUNCH reports that Tinubu recently approved Ogbuku’s reappointment for a second term. He is to remain in an acting capacity, pending the Senate’s confirmation of his reappointment.

According to a Thursday statement signed by its Director, Corporate Affairs, Pius Ughakpoteni, Ogbuku spoke during an interactive session with management and staff of NDDC at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt. He said, “The President has high expectations of us, especially to change the narrative of the NDDC and the Niger Delta region. I assure him that we will not fail. This reappointment gives me renewed vigor to revamp the NDDC and develop the Niger Delta region.
