The Peoples Democratic Party has said no fewer than 150 million Nigerians are finding it difficult to afford daily basic meals three months after President Bola Tinubu took office as President.

This is as The main opposition party said the nation was on the edge of the precipice because the government “lacks the acceptability and followership of citizens; a situation that has created an atmosphere and feeling of absence of governance in the country.”

The party stated this on Monday in a press statement issued in Abuja and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba.

The statement read in part, “It is horrifying that in the last two months, over 150 million Nigerians can no longer afford their daily meals with families now going to bed on empty stomachs.

“The administration’s lack of ingenuity, tact and sensitivity towards the wellbeing of Nigerians in the removal of subsidy and floating of the naira inflamed unbearable high cost of living, crippled our national productivity, crashed millions of businesses and sparked massive job loss.

The House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee probing employment racketeering in Federal Government agencies has said it will recommend the abolition of waivers to bypass advertisement of employment opportunities.

The Committee Chairman, Yusuf Gagdi, said this during the resumption of the investigative hearing on Monday.

This was as he accused the Registrar of the National Postgraduate Medical College, Prof. Fatiu Arogundade, of lop-sidedness in their recruitment based on the agency’s presentation at the hearing.

Gagdi worried that almost all the government agencies that had appeared so far for the investigation were carrying out their employment secretly as they always applied for waivers to avoid advertising for various frivolous reasons.
