Today's Headlines: I’m Ready To Work With Tinubu — PDP Lawmaker, Adepoju; Peter Obi is not a god— Chuks Iloegbunam

I’m ready to work with Tinubu, says PDP lawmaker

The Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker representing Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North, Oyo state, Anthony Adepoju, has said that he is ready to work with President, Bola Tinubu, even though he is elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

The lawmaker said this while speaking on Kaftan TV on Tuesday, noting that he is after the growth and development of the country. “What I am after is the development of Nigeria. And the president we have is who we should work with. At this point, Tinubu is our president and I am ready to work with him. Adepoju also stressed that he contested to become a lawmaker to help solve the problem of his constituents, particularly in the area of power supply.

“If we are not satisfied with how things go, there are two options to be done. One is we keep mum and be expecting God will do it and the other is to strive and make sure there is a transformation in the situation. The other option is what I chose and the reason why I contested,” he said. He noted that the poor power supply has made many people leave the constituency for other areas, noting that this was affecting the growth of the communities.

Peter Obi is not a god— CHUKS ILOEGBUNAM

Yes! There’s nothing they haven’t said of Peter Obi. They have charged that he is not a god. They have said he is no more than a political opportunist. They have ridiculed his promise to change Nigeria from consumer to producer. They pooh-poohed as unfounded the statistics the man churned out on successes abroad that could be replicated back home.

But the traducers wouldn’t reckon with reality. The subject of their insistent lambasting never ascribed divinity to himself. He did not circle his head with sanctity’s hallo. In the league of politicians, he didn’t claim to be more human. He only asked for the chance to lift a comatose country. Those who alternate between reading newspapers and staring into the skies understand that, like other humans, Peter Obi possesses a bag of foibles. All told, he sculpted in the granite of national consciousness an enduring self-definition. “I am a trader,” he often asserts, without the novelty ever wearing off. Well, here is a gem from the trader-politician: “Who among us would lose their car and, on discovering who made away with it, allow them to keep the vehicle because it was scrupulously maintained?”

Any reader who would rather the illegal confiscation of his property stays unchallenged because it is forever kept tidy may discontinue reading because this article is themed on halting looters and worsting impunity. Now, the stolen automobile and seized mansion are understated anecdotes for estopping wantonness. Here is a newspaper’s May 5, 2023, story: “A total of 137 persons were killed, and 57 abducted during the 2023 general elections, a report by the Incident Centre for Election Atrocities (ICEA) has shown. The report entitled: “Ethnic Profiling, Hate Speech, and Endemic Violence: A Preliminary Post-Election Statement on the 2023 General Elections in Nigeria,” obtained by Saturday Vanguard in Abuja, said the most prominent forms of atrocities noted through the electioneering process were the weaponization off voter suppression through violence, hate speech, fake news, and ethnic bigotry.”

APC lawyers to PEPC: Atiku, Obi lack proof tinubu’s election was rigged

The All Progressives Congress, (APC), has said that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar failed to provide credible evidence to substantiate his allegation that the presidential election was rigged in favor of President Bola Tinubu.

The APC has also said that Mr. Peter Obi and the Labour Party’s evidence against President Tinubu was minuscule and deficient. Both Atiku and Obi and their parties dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), challenging the victory of Tinubu at the Feb. 25 presidential election.

The APC in its final brief of argument filed at the court through its team of lawyers led by Mr Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, argued that Atiku and the PDP are not entitled to any of the reliefs they are asking for in their petitions. The APC held that the petitioners only dumped documents on the court and claimed that such documents were enough evidence to prove their allegations.

Alhaji Mohammed Babangida, the first son of the deceased former First Lady, relayed the family’s gratitude on Tuesday in Abuja during the official renaming ceremony. Current First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, performed the ceremony.

The Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bill for the change of name was passed by the Senate on March 29, 2023, while the House of Representatives passed the same on April 5, 2023. Former President Muhammadu Buhari later assented to the bill that amended the NCWD Act, Cap. N15, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
