I Have Right To Choose My Replacement At Senate – Umahi

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has declared that he has the right to decide his replacement as the senator representing Ebonyi South district under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umahi left the Senate after being appointed the country’s minister of works by President Bola Tinubu.

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Sept. 8 ruled that Umahi was the district’s validly elected senator after dismissing petitions from the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates.

Umahi declared that he had the right to determine his replacement on Saturday during his visit to Gov. Francis Nwifuru, as part of his tour of the state to inspect federal roads.

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has congratulated President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima on their victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which affirmed the All Progressives Congress winner as the Presidential Election of February 25, 2023.

The PEPC had on Wednesday delivered a 12-hour judgment on the appeals arising from the presidential election, upholding the election of President Bola Tinubu.

Atiku and Obi had rejected the court’s judgment, vowing to approach the Supreme Court.

In a statement on Saturday his verified Facebook account, Osinbajo stated that the PEPC ruling was a great victory for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and the rule of law.

The statement reads, “Congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, and our great party, the All Progressives Congress, on the judicial affirmation of the victory at the presidential election of February 25, 2023.

Wike Denies Inviting EFCC, ICPC To Investigate Predecessor Bello

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has debunked “recent online media reports” claiming plans to invite the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the immediate past FCT Minister, Muhammad Bello, in relation to certain irregularities in the award of contracts and other such matters.

The Director of Press in the FCT Ministry in the Office of the Minister, Anthony Ogunleye, in a statement on Saturday, said, “We categorically and unequivocally state that these reports are entirely baseless and without any merit whatsoever.

“The FCT Minister, during his routine inspections of various projects within the FCT, has indeed expressed concerns and frustrations regarding irregularities observed in the procurement and execution of certain projects, amongst other observations which he very publicly expressed.

“However, at no point did he contemplate or authorize any action by anyone within or outside the FCT Administration to invite the EFCC or ICPC to investigate the former FCT Minister in connection with these or any other matters.

PDP Collected First Copy Of PEPC Judgment, We ‘Watermarked’ Ours – Tinubu’s Counsel

President Bola Tinubu’s legal team at the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) has refuted what it describes as “mischievous” claims over a copy of Wednesday’s tribunal’s judgment circulating online with “Tinubu’s Presidential Legal Team” (TPLT) in the header.The Coordinator, TPLT, Babatunde OGALA (SAN), in a statement on Saturday, expressed the need to offer clarification, “following some mischievous insinuations being made in certain quarters regarding the innocuous water-mark of copies of the consolidated judgment of the Court of Appeal”.

Ogala noted that after the delivery of judgment in the three election petitions by the Court of Appeal last Wednesday, the Court directed its registry to make physical copies of the document available the following day.

Accordingly, the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team applied for a certified true copy of the said judgment and paid the prescribed fee. Lawyers for PDP were present at the registry at the same time to collect the same judgment,” the statement read.
