Two die as fresh crisis erupts in Taraba

No fewer than two persons were reportedly killed in a fresh crisis that erupted, yesterday, between the Wurkun and Karinjo communities in Karim-Lamido Local Council of Taraba State. It was also alleged that over five villages were burnt to ashes.

Confirming the report, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abdullahi Usman, described the attack as “ a gorilla welfare,” adding that many anti-riot policemen had been deployed to the area. He said apart from the policemen, heavily armed soldiers and other security operatives were drafted to the troubled communities. He was optimistic that the command, in collaboration with the sister’s security agencies, would put the situation under control.

However, he blamed the Karinjo community for the attack. He alleged that the Karinjo community had engaged the service of mercenaries from the neighboring Lau Local Council, and this has led to the killings of no fewer than two persons, while some villages burnt beyond recognition. Villages razed at the time of filing this report, included Garin Marwa, Sarkin Kudu, Sallamin Kala, and Yashi Pena. Sources from the communities described Karinjo’s action as shocking.

The Plateau State chapter of the APC is in turmoil today because of what I’ll describe as the politics of exclusion, the politics of family and friends. You have a situation whereby, over the years, the then-ruling party and government deliberately excluded some critical stakeholders like us from the party’s major activities and decision-making. 

Most of us were not carried along in the affairs of the party, we were given the leper’s treatment and relegated to the background for reasons best known to them. Before the general elections, for instance, to the best of my knowledge, no caucus meeting was ever held. On the few occasions that party meetings were held, usually in Government House, it was only for state government appointees to be given strict marching orders on whatever the government wanted.

My BP would have risen if I lost my Senatorial bid—Oshiomhole

Sen. Adams Oshiomhole (APC-Edo) has said that if he lost his senatorial ambition, his blood pressure would have risen to 360 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg).

Oshiomhole said this during the post-inauguration/thank you party hosted in his honor by friends and well-wishers at his country home, Iyamho, Etsako, Edo, on Saturday. “If you have voted against me, I don’t know if my blood pressure will now be 240/0360 that is if I’m still alive.

“Because the jubilations by the opponent would have been such that they will come and lock my small door and break my small bones, but you said no”, Oshiomhole told his audience. Oshiomhole said that many governors lost in their bids to become senators, adding that it would have been a shame to him if he also lost.

PDP Rep: 10th NASS won’t be a mere rubber stamp

Malam Abubakar Buba, a member of the House of Representatives, has said that the 10th National Assembly “won’t be a mere rubber stamp to the executive arm of government”.

Buba, a PDP legislator, who represents Chachanga Federal Constituency in Niger, hinted that the opposition lawmakers would challengeth the policies of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) government. He spoke in an interview with newsmen on Saturday in Minna. “Part of my campaign promises was to represent my constituency well and protect its interest.

“I belong to the minority side; we are going to scrutinize and challenge policies brought to the national assembly by the ruling APC. That is the essence of opposition. “We are not going to sit down and watch the national assembly become a rubber stamp to the executive. We have sworn to protect the interests of our people,” he said.
