FG mourns as national flag designer dies.

According to Punch news, The Federal Government of Nigeria has mourned the death of the designer of the Nigerian national flag, Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi who died at the age of 84, at his family home in Ibadan, after a brief illness.

According to a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation Alhaji Mohammed Idris on Wednesday, the late Pa Akinkunmi was a national icon.

The statement read, “I am particularly saddened over the news of the demise of Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, a national icon, whose contribution to national unity will remain indelible.

“The death of Pa Akinkunmi came at the time Nigeria was reinventing itself for peace, development and enduring national reconciliation; the country would miss the contributions of the deceased, especially at this time that the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is banking on the Renewed Hope Agenda to build on the national fervour that characterised Nigeria’s journey to independence.

Wike dares PDP, says ‘nobody can expel me’.

According to Punch news, The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dared his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, to expel him.

Speaking on the possibility of getting expelled from the PDP for anti-party activities, Wike dared those contemplating the move saying, “Nobody can expel me.”

Wike stated this Wednesday evening when he featured on Channels Television’s programme, “Politics Today.”

The immediate-past governor of Rivers State stressed that he had yet to see any leader in the PDP who had the authority to expel him from the party.

“The person who will suspend me is when I couldn’t produce a governor, three senators, Assembly members. I have not seen that person. Nobody will do it,” Wike said.

“Who will discipline me? I should be the one calling for the discipline of these people who violated the party constitution,” the minister added.

Motorists accuse LASTMA officials of extortion, harassment.

According to Punch news, Some motorists have raised concerns over alleged extortion and harassment by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

The motorists, in separate interviews with PUNCH Metro, on Wednesday, lamented that they were at one point or the other allegedly extorted or harassed by the traffic officials.

The reactions came barely 24 hours after a yet-to-be-identified woman fell and lost consciousness as an official of LASTMA and a commercial driver allegedly clashed on Kodesoh Road along the MRS filling station in Ikeja on Tuesday.

Two eyewitnesses who spoke with PUNCH Metro on Tuesday claimed the woman involved in the accident was pregnant. However, LASTMA in a statement dismissed the claim, saying that the woman only sustained minor injuries.

A motorist, who identified himself simply as Toyin, on Wednesday, said he paid N30,000 to LASTMA officials within three weeks for offences he did not understand.

Two in court for stealing cosmetics, others from supermarket.

According to Punch news, An 18-year-old man, Wahab Hassan and 27-year-old Abubakar Suleiman were on Tuesday arraigned before a Sagamu Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for stealing cosmetics and other items from a supermarket.

They were said to have committed the offence on Sunday in Badore, Shimawa.

While Hassan was accused of stealing groceries valued at N1,600, Suleiman was arraigned for stealing cosmetics valued at N21,900.

The charges against the defendants read in part, “That you, Abubakar Suleiman and Wahab Hassan, on August 27, 2023, around 8.30 am at Emmy’s Mart supermarket, Badore, Simawa in the Sagamu Magisterial District did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.”
