ABUJA / LAGOS – The Senate has washed its hands off reports of military action against the coup plotters in Niger, warning President Bola Tinubu and Heads of States of member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to explore peaceful diplomatic options to address the recent putsch in that country.
The Red Chamber, in an extraordinary session on Saturday, also commended President Tinubu for not seeking its backing for a military action in the troubled West African State.
Arising from a closed session, the Upper Chamber called on the Nigerian president to rally other Heads of States in the West African subregion to explore diplomatic options to resolve the political impasse in the landlocked neighbouring country.

ABUJA – The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25 election, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, and some governors of the party met in Asokoro, Abuja, on Saturday.
The meeting was in continuation of efforts at settling the lingering crisis in the party and the leaders’ attempt to re-position the platform after it was humbled by internal disputes and electoral failure this year.
At the end of the meeting that lasted for more than three hours, the PDP governors and the party stakeholders, in their communique, emphasised the need for party discipline and re-iterated zero tolerance for anti-party activities and sabotage.

A Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois County, United States of America, has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the general elections, requesting President Bola Tinubu’s academic records from the Chicago State University.
During the campaigns in 2022, Tinubu stated that he had a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with honours.
Despite Beverly Poindexter, who is in charge of official transcript requests, enrolment and degree verification at the Office of the Registrar, CSU, affirming Tinubu’s comment, some persons still had some doubts.
Recently, Atiku filed a suit, seeking to subpoena the university but was said to have, before the date of hearing, withdrawn the case before the court.

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Saturday explained that his administration decided to leave the accounts of the state frozen to avoid the continuous looting of the state treasury.
Alia stated this during his maiden meeting with media practitioners in the state held at new banquet hall of Government House, Makurdi.
The state government had in recent times said that some senior workers in the state were discovered to be drawing salary from three different places; state, local government and State Universal Basic Education Board.
Asked reason for the continuous closure of the state accounts, the Catholic priest- turned politician said he took the right decision to freeze the state accounts as hyenas and hawks were still hanging around.
