Court Refuses To Extend Order Stopping Trial Of Suspended Adamawa REC, Hudu Yunusa Ari

Justice Donatus Okorowo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has refused to extend an interim order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission, Inspector General of Police, and the Attorney General of the Federation from prosecuting the suspended Adamawa state Resident Electoral Commissioner Hudu Yunusa Ari, pending the hearing and determination of a motion filed by Senator Aishatu Dahiru popularly known as Binani.

By the suit, INEC is seeking the prosecution of Hudu Yunusa Ari for declaring the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress Senator Binani as the winner of the Adamawa state governorship election on April 15, 2023.

Justice Okorowo had on July 10, made an injunctive order following a motion filed by Binani, which had INEC, IGP, and the AGF as defendants.In its ruling, the court ordered parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the substantive suit.

Justice Okorowo also directed the defendants to appear before the court on July 18, to show cause while they should not be permanently restrained from prosecuting the suspended Adamawa state REC.

At a resumed sitting on Tuesday, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) representing INEC, told the court that the applicant had not served the defendants with the July 10, order of the court.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently meeting presidents of three West African countries at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

They are Patrice Talon of Benin Republic, Umaro Sissoco Embalo of Guinea-Bissau; and Mohammed Bazoum of Niger Republic.

The three presidents who arrived the State House one after the other at about noon were received at the forecourt of his office by President Tinubu.Although the agenda of the meeting is not known, Daily Trust reports that discussions will revolve around economies with their host who is now the Chairman of the Authority of the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

President Tinubu had returned to Abuja Monday evening from Nairobi, Kenya, where he participated in the fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union (AU).

Court affirms Ododo’s qualification to contest APC’s guber primary

Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, held that Mr Ahmed Usman Ododo can lawfully continue to fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming governorship election in Kogi State.

Justice Egwuatu made the decision while delivering judgment in a suit seeking Ododo’s disqualification over an alleged breach of the electoral laws.

Ododo had emerged winner of the APC primary election of April 14, held to choose the party’s candidate in the November 11 governorship poll in Kogi State.

However, displeased by his emergence, an aspirant of the APC, Mr Abubakar Achimugu, had approached the Federal High Court, Abuja, asking that Ododo be disqualified from contesting the November 11 governorship election on the grounds that he did not resign his employment with the Kogi State public service 30 days before contesting the governorship primary.

Nigeria Police Academy denies opening admissions into school, warns against fraudsters

The Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, has described as fake and fraudulent, news that it is admitting new intakes into the School, warning Nigerians to be wary of fraudsters spreading false information.The Commandant of the Academy, AIG Sadiq Abubakar, told newsmen on Tuesday, that the Academy is shocked to find out that some criminal elements were selling admissions to unsuspecting victims.

“I want to clarify that those behind the spreading and selling of the offers of admissions are fraudsters who are all out to tarnish the good image of the Academy and let me say this without fear of contradiction that there are no admissions in this academy”

The Commandant explained that plans were underway by the institution to introduce new programmes on security studies.

The Commandant who made the disclosure during the media parley with journalists, said it will offer various certificate courses under security studies.
