Following Wednesday’s coup in Gabon, Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed concern that a contagion of autocracy was spreading across Africa.

He said he was working very closely with other Heads of State in the African Union towards a comprehensive consensus response after the coup in Gabon.

The coup came amid the ongoing efforts to resolve the crisis in Niger Republic following the overthrow of President Mohamed Bazoum by the country’s military.

The Gabonese coupists annulled Saturday’s election, which Bongo was declared to have won.

The soldiers announced the dissolution of all the institutions in Gabon and shut the country’s borders, saying their actions were on behalf of the central African nation’s security and defence forces.

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, clarified that he is working for President Bola Tinubu and not the All Progressives Congress.

“I am not working for APC. I am working for Tinubu who have trust in me to help him deliver the renewed hope,” Wike said when he featured on Channels TV Politics Today.

He added, “I owe nobody any apology at all. I was in PDP and I worked for Ahmed Bola Tinubu to become the President of Nigeria.”

The PUNCH reports that controversy surrounded Wike’s reported APC membership after his name featured in the ruling party’s campaign council for the governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states on November 11.

This followed the denial, on Tuesday night, by the party of releasing the controversial documents containing notable names of chairmen, co-chairmen and members of the campaign councils for the governorship elections that went viral in the media and online platforms.

The rebuttal was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has yet again, risen in stout defence of the economic policies being pursued by the administration of President Bola Tinubu with a call on Nigerians to endure with the President in his bid to take the country to a higher pedestal.

The governor gave this plea yesterday while paying a courtesy visit to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in her office at the State House, Abuja.

Commenting on the ongoing reforms by the president, Sanwo-Olu said taking the country to a level, where every Nigerian could be comfortable required hard decisions and systematic efforts by the government, as well as a lot of patience on the part of the citizens.

According to him, “We have to continue to encourage and support him, and encourage our citizens as well that we see a bright light down the tunnel. Not doing anything is not an option. So, in the course of doing things differently, there will be belt up here, there will be tightening there, but at the end of the day,we believe the result that comes out of those reforms will improve the quality of life and make things a lot better for our citizens and the economy will continue to grow in the direction that we are all appreciative of.”

The Ilobu community in Osun State has absolved the Nigerian Army and its Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, of any wrongdoing regarding the search for a suitable site for a proposed project by the military within the town.

The community also demanded an investigation of Eesa of Ifon Osun, Chief Babatunde Oyetunji, and Prince Jide Akinyooye by the security operatives to stop them from causing crises between Ifon and Ilobu communities.

Chief Oyetunji, who is the regent of Ifon Osun, had on Tuesday, called on the president, Bola Tinubu, and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to intervene and stop an alleged attempt by the military to seize land belonging to it for a project that would be named after Ilobu, being the community where Lagbaja hails from.

But addressing journalists at Olobu’s palace in Ilobu on Wednesday, the Otun Jagun of Ilobu, Chief Adegoke Ogunsola, said the land inspected for the proposed project belongs to the Ilobu community
