The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has suffered a legal blow in the United States where he had gone to seek information in his struggle for the seat of power.

His bid to subpoena the Chicago State University, United States ahead of the judgment of the Presidential Election Tribunal was rejected by a Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois County, United States.

The court dismissed the lawsuit filed by the PDP candidate to get access to President Bola Tinubu’s confidential educational records at Chicago State University.

According to the Circuit Court papers, Justice Patrick J. Heneghan dismissed the case without prejudice.

Atiku and his supporters often erroneously claim that President Tinubu did not attend Chicago State University in a bid to stain his character and reputation.

A leading Chicago State official has again confirmed that the President is a long time and distinguished alumnus of the University.

Ganduje will take APC to next level – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, on Saturday, described the emergence of immediate past governor of Kano State, Abdulahi Ganduje, as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as putting a round peg in a round hole.

He also congratulated Ganduje and Senator Ajibola Basiru on their emergence as National Chairman and National Secretary of the APC respectively.

A statement from the Media Office of the President of the Senate, quoted him as saying, “we are very satisfied with the emergence of His Excellency, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, as our National Chairman. He ticks all the boxes and he is indeed, a round peg in a round hole. He has all it takes to take the party to another level.

“With Dr Ganduje as the party chairman, the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu is right on course. As a strong and committed party man, he knows how to galvanize all interests within the party into a united entity for the future success of the party,” Akpabio said.

He noted that “the seamless transition that led to his emergence as the National Chairman shows the maturity and determination of members to work for the unity and progress of the party.”

Police rescue man found with dead child from mob in Lagos

The timely intervention of police operatives from the Ilemba-Hausa Division under the Lagos State Command saved a man found with the dead body of his friend’s child.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the situation to the Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.

Hundeyin said that the incident happened on Friday, when a man, who was assisting his friend to go and bury his dead child was almost lynched when some residents found the corpse with him.

He said the residents were suspicious and took him as a ritual killer, who might have abducted and killed the child.

The image maker said after some torture by the residents, he was dragged to the Ilemba-Hausa police division.

“Upon interrogation, he told the police that the child had been sick for a while and had just died in the hospital.

“He said he was contracted by the parents to help bury the child. He was on his way to bury the child before he was accosted by some residents who thought he had evil intentions.

“The parents of the deceased child were invited to the station, where they confirmed the man’s claim,” Hundeyin said.

The spokesperson said the parents of the child and the accused man were released to proceed with the burial as planned.

AAC As Voice Of Opposition

With two months into the current political dispensation, there is every indication that there is no voice for the opposition in the country.

This becomes so pronounced as none of the political parties has really come out to challenge most of the actions of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since his inauguration on May 29, 2023.

Although there are 18 political parties that contested for the last general elections, the victory which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) awarded to the All Progressives Congress (APC), most of the parties seem to have lost their voices since after the elections.

Some of the political parties are in the courts still trying to reclaim their perceived victories and so believe that they indeed should be the real ruling party.

Interestingly, for the first time, there are more than two political parties in the legislature, unlike in the past when it was just the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This time around, in the 10th National Assembly, APC retained majority in Senate with 59 senators, PDP trailed with 36 senators. The Labour Party (LP) has eight senators, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have two seats each. The Young Progressives Party (YPP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) have one seat each.
