APC Crisis: Tinubu Shops for Adamu’s Successor

According to VANGUARD newspaper, following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is “actively shopping” for his replacement.

The national daily quotes multiple sources as saying the President already has a replacement for Adamu but was consulting some stakeholders in order to make his choice acceptable to all.

Former Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and the immediate-past Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong are among the two being tipped for the position.

Emefiele’s Lawyers Vow to Jail DSS DG for Contempt

THE SUN newspaper reports that a consortium of constitutional and human right lawyers have have commence committal proceedings against the Director General of the State Security Service (DSS), Mr. Yusuf Magaji Bichi, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), for allegedly violating multiple judgments and orders of court directing the release of the suspended Central Bank governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele from custody.

Led by Mr. Maxwell Opara and Ahmed Tijani, the applicants have prayed the Court to commit Mr. Bichi to prison until he purges himself of the contempt. The lawyers assert that by the judgments and orders of Justice M. A. Hassan, Justice Hamza Muazu and Justice Bello Kawu, the DG DSS ought to have released Mr. Emefiele from detention.

In a chat with newsmen, the lawyers vowed to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion and ensure that Mr. Bichi is sent to prison to serve as a deterrent to other heads of security agencies. They also called on President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to relieve Mr. Bichi of his appointment for misleading him that Mr. Emefiele had committed heinous crimes against the state.

Suspended EFCC Chair Spends 33 Days in Custody

According to PUNCH, the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has spent 33 days in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.



Bawa was arrested on June 14, hours after his suspension by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, had said Bawa was suspended because of “weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him”. However, the spy agency has kept mum on the specific offences for which Bawa was arrested, the level of investigation and whether charges would be filed against him in court, since his arrest.
