The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, Monday predicted that the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume would soon dump the All Progressives Congress, APC, and return to the PDP.
Senator Akume was the Governor of Benue State on the platform of the PDP between 1999 and 2007.
Senator Ayu who made the assertion at the decamping rally of the APC lawmaker representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr. John Dyegh and his teeming supporters to the PDP in Gboko.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Ayu said, “your lost son, Senator George Akume is coming back to the PDP. I am saying this based on what I know. I earlier prophesied that Akume would hold the broom and he did.
Wike sacks Commissioner for Health, Princewill Chike
Governor, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Monday announced the sack of his commissioner for Health Prof. Princewill Chike.
The commissioner was sacked because he accepted to host the preliminary session of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN, in Port Harcourt without the approval of the state government.
The Governor made the announcement when he received in audience the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Prof. Abba Wasiri Hassan at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
Gov. Wike described the decision of the Commissioner as most embarrassing.
Lawan reveals salaries of Senators, Reps
The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Monday, revealed the salaries and emoluments of members of the National Assembly to the public in Abuja.
Lawan also said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has surpassed his predecessors on assent to bills.
He stated this in a paper presented at the First Distinguished Parliamentarians Lecture Series organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies.
The President of the Senate said the monthly Salary of a Senator was N1.5 million while that of a member of the House of Representatives is N1.3 million.
Teenager Arrested Third Time For Traffic Robbery In Lagos, Weeks After Leaving Prison
An 18-year-old teenager, identified as Sodiq Abubakar, has been arrested for the third time for traffic robbery in
Lagos State by the officials of police Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
Abubakar was arrested around 8pm on Friday in the Ketu area shortly after using an unidentified object to threaten a motorist, and thereafter dispossessed him of N7000 while in traffic
The suspect confessed that he went into robbery again to raise funds to offset the debt he incurred after his release from prison four weeks ago.
Abubakar explained that he borrowed some money shortly after his release from the correctional centre to procure drugs. He noted that when his creditor became too persistent, he resorted to traffic robbery to raise money to offset the debt.
Abubakar stated that he worked with an accomplice identified as Ahmadu to threaten and smash the side glass of their victim if he failed to release the money in his pockets.
He added that their victim coughed up N7,000 which they shared immediately.
However, Abubakar pleaded for mercy, asserting that he was released from Correctional Centre four weeks ago after being arrested by officers of Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
