Tribunal: Adebayo advises Obi, Atiku to prepare for 2027

As Nigerians alongside the presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, await the judgment of the Presidential Elections Tribunal Tribunal (PEPT), the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the February 25 presidential election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has advised the duo of Atiku and Obi as well as other opposition party members to move on with their lives and start preparing for the 2027 presidential elections.

Adebayo, who handed down the advice on X (@Pres_Adebayo) over the weekend, wanted the petitioners, and indeed, Nigerians to move on, and start preparations for the next general elections in 2027 because, according to him, the petitions were the easiest to dispense by the Tribunal judges since the return of democracy in 1999.

He noted that the petitions lacked merit and were poorly presented.

He said: “This year’s election petitions are the easiest to dispense with since 1999. No need for any judicial acrobatics. They fall within clear jurisprudence and well established precedents. Obi/Labour vs Tinubu/INEC will be dismissed in limine; ditto for Atiku/PDP vs Tinubu/INEC. These petitions lack merit and are poorly presented, abysmally unproved and comically argued. The APM’s half-hearted petition is a pre-election mongrel with no pedigree in electoral litigation. The judges are not to blame. All opposition elements should prepare for 2027 elections.”

2023 Poll: We’ve learned lessons — Yakubu

The National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has said lessons have been learned from the 2023 general elections and that there would be an improvement in the forthcoming circle elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states.He added that the commission is satisfied with the feedback it got during the 2023 post-election review organized by the commission.

Speaking during the just concluded three-day review of the 2023 elections in Lagos, the INEC boss disclosed that most of the issues raised and recommendations made to improve the Nation’s elections would be tested in the coming elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa.

“We promised Nigerians that we were going to hold the election review meeting and conclude it within one month. We started on the 4th of July, and today is the 4th of August. The response has been overwhelming. Remember, we started with the state-level consultation with the RECs, we had an engagement with the transport unions, we then met with the State collation of the presidential election in Abuja, and then we had engagements with political parties and civil organizations, among others. So overall, we are encouraged by the response of stakeholders across the board and the quality of the contributions they have made.

Asked about the challenges that popped up during the review, he said, The number of challenges that came up, technology for voter accreditation, and result management, have been some of the issues raised, and recommendations made.

United States Envoy Hails Nigeria,US Creative Industry Collaboration.

The United States (US) Mission has hailed the creative industry collaboration between the United States, and Nigeria that is bringing the two countries closer together in music, film, fashion, arts, tech, professional and educational exchanges.

Delivering his remarks at the pre-award reception in honour of the 16th annual awards, the U.S. Consul General, Will Stevens applauded the burgeoning ties of the two countries in the creative industry.

Stevens explained that the return of the Headies award to Atlanta symbolises the Nigerian music industry’s dynamism, creativity, and growing global reach. He highlighted the important role of an inclusive and sustainable creative ecosystem in advancing economic growth and strengthening bilateral people-to-people ties.

Police arrest Zamfara notorious kidnapper, female informant

The Zamfara State police command has arrested one notorious kidnapper, Lawali Danhajiya, whom it said specialised in abducting people of Gusau, the state capital.

Also arrested was a female informant, Umma Zubairu, who worked for a dreaded bandit kingpin, Dan Karami.

Addressing journalists at the police headquarters in Gusau, the spokesperson for the command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, said the suspected kidnapper, Danhajiya, had been terrorising the Saminaka area in Gusau town, the state capital.

He said, “The Police Tactical Team attached to Gusau Area Command acted on actionable intelligence that led to the arrest of the notorious kidnapper, Danhajiya.“

In the course of investigation, one Mika’ilu lbrahim “m” of Saminaka clearly identified the suspect as one of the bandits that kidnapped him sometime in March 2023 at his residence in Saminaka area. Another victim named Aina’u Aliyu “f” of Saminaka area also identified the suspect as the one who kidnapped her on 22nd June, 2023.”

Abubakar stated that the case was under investigation, adding that the suspect would be charged to court on completion of investigation.
