Senate fails to confirm El-Rufai, two others, cites security concerns

The Nigerian Senate on Monday failed to confirm the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir EL-Rufai.

Forty-five ministerial nominees out of 48 nominees forwarded to the Senate by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been confirmed.

Speaking after the confirmation of the 45 nominees, Senate President, Godswill Obot Akpabio, revealed that Nasir El-Rufai and two others have not been cleared by security checks.

Former lawmaker Shehu Sani has alleged that ex-governors nominated for ministerial appointments by President Bola Tinubu represent his liabilities.

DAILY POST recalls that Tinubu’s ministerial list sent to the Senate for screening and confirmation contained nine former governors, a development that has attracted mixed reactions from Nigerians.

The ex-governors include Nyesom Wike, Nasir El-Rufai, Dave Umahi, and Bello Matawalle, among others.

Financial leaders to brainstorm on insurance, pension growth

The Nigerian Association of Insurance and Pension Editors has named chieftains in the insurance and pension industry to brainstorm on insurance and pension contribution to the economy.

It said in a statement, it named the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, APT Securities and Funds Limited, Mallam Kasim Kurfi, as the keynote speaker for its up-coming 8th annual national conference with the theme, ‘Role of insurance and pension sectors in building sustainable economic growth under the new government’.

NAIPE said the panellists for the conference included President of West African Insurance Companies Association/Group Managing Director, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance, Mr Eddie Efekoha; the President of Pension Fund tors Association of Nigeria, Olumide Oyetan; the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Scib Insurance Brokers, Mr Shola Tinubu; and former Secretary General, African Insurance Organisation, Ms Prisca Soares.

Others are the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, NLPC, Mr Samuel Abolarin; the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Access Pension, Dave Oduanu; and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, ARM Pension, Mr Wale Odutola.

3,000 Kano residents get free checkups, medication

The Kano Independent Research Centre Trust, on Sunday, offered free medical services to no fewer than 3,000 people from Dawakin kudu rural community, all of whom are underprivileged members of the society.

The Chief Medical Director of the centre, Dr Jameel Ahmad, while briefing newsmen during the free medical outreach, said, “The centre organised the programme, to offer free medical services to patients within the community, who cannot afford the high cost of quality medical services.”

According to him, the services are part of the centre’s Corporate Social Responsibility for underprivileged members of Dawakin kudu, a predominantly rural community.

“So far, it has been very interesting because as it is now, we have more than 1,000 people, who have been diagnosed and treated free of charge.

“We are expecting not less than 3,000 patients and above and already we have 5,000 patients assembled at this centre, some of whom have been treated for their different ailments,” the CMD said.
