Tinubu’s lawyer asks tribunal to dismiss Obi’s petition, reveals reason

The petition filed by Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP) has been requested to be dismissed by Wole Olanipekun, lawyer to President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Olanipekun referred to Obi and LP’s arguments and witness testimony as “frivolous, bogus, and based on hearsay” in his final written response to their petition.

According to The Punch, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was named the victor of the 2023 presidential election on March 1 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The total votes cast for Tinubu were 8,794,726.

With 6,984,520 votes, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came in second, followed by Peter Obi of the Liberal Party (LP) with 6,101,533 votes.

On March 20, Obi and LP submitted a petition to the court asking for the election to be declared invalid due to a violation of the Electoral Act of 2022.

In his final written statement dated July 14, Olanipekun pleaded with the tribunal to exclude Obi from running in any future elections if the court nullifies the vote from February 25.

When he ran for office, he claimed that Obi’s name was not on the list of Labour Party members, noting that Obi was still a member of the PDP.

Olanipekun stated in his judgment that it is obvious from the presentation of the petition and the evidence offered that the court process has been blatantly abused.
