The statement of the former governor of Lagos State, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has elicited a wide range of opinions among Nigeria’ s social and political strata.

Some have applauded his declaration, while others have been perplexed by his desire.

Former minister Oby Ezekwesili is one of many who has questioned his ambition.

She stated that Nigerians have the collective power to prevent politicians such as former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu from assuming the presidency.

In a tweet on Tuesday, January 10, the 2019 presidential hopeful pondered if Nigerians were ready to stand up against Tinubu collectively.

She posted on Twitter;

” The question is, ” are citizens ready to collectively do so? “

” It is citizens that have the power to collectively tell the likes of Mr Bola Tinubu that the season of the lowest common denominator of political leaders doing ” turn- by- turn” incompetent governance of Nigeria is over. The question is, ” are citizens ready to collectively do so? ” ✍🏾

Nigerians React

In reaction to the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) convener’ s tweet, Nigerians have taken to their Twitter apps to drop their reactions as gathered by JoseyWrites below.

@DrAyoayo said;

” I ask again, with the abysmal failure of APC as a party, why are they still winning all our elections with a landslide? Something is not right with us. “

@rafstonysaint stated that;

” Bola Tinubu is not clueless, he has demonstrated capacity to deliver and effect positive change, bring out a leader who has demonstrated his kind of sagacity and courage. “

@Yinka213 also said;

” Mr Bola Tinubu is a Nigerian who has adjudged himself competent for the seat, if u think otherwise, u r eminently qualified to ma, join the race, let’ s have alternatives. We are in a democracy, stop attacking personalities. “

@BayoAdetunji said that;

” Madam…please declare your interest for the position of the President and face Nigerians…. stop hiding behind big turenchi to de- market another Nigerian. “

Tinubu Declares Ambition To Buhari

After months of waiting, the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader, Bola Tinubu, has finally stated his desire to run for president of Nigeria in 2023.

He revealed this to the press on Monday, January 10, following a closed- door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.

In an interview with State House reporters, Mr Tinubu stated that it has always been his dream to govern the country one day.

” I have informed the President of my

ambition but I have not informed Nigerians yet, I am still consulting. And I have no problem consulting. And I’ ve not set a parameter of limitation to the extent of how many people I will consult.

” You will soon hear. All you want to hear is the categorical declaration. You’ ve gotten that truth from me that I have informed Mr President of my ambition, and you don’ t expect more answers than that, ” he said.

His viewpoint was also verified to PREMIUM TIMES by his spokeswoman, Tunde Rahman, who urged this reporter to wait for a complete transcript of his boss’ conversation with state reporters.

TVC News, a television network thought to be sponsored by Mr Tinubu, also corroborated the assertion to reporters in their broadcast.

While the former Lagos governor was unable to reveal Mr Buhari’ s view on his choice to run to journalists, his statement shows that the president is abiding by his commitment not to actively solicit support for any candidate.

” That’ s our business. He is a Democrat. He didn’ t ask me to stop. He didn’ t ask me not to attempt and pursue my ambition, it is a lifelong ambition. So, why do I expect him to say more than that? You are running a democratic dispensation, and you must adopt the principles and the values and virtues of democracy. That’ s it. ” In response to a question about what happened during the closed- door meeting with the president, Mr Tinubu stated.

When asked about his prospects against Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Governor Yayaha Bello of Kogi State, who has since revealed his intent to run for president at the primary election, Mr Tinubu avoided the question, instead stating that he hopes to recreate his accomplishments in Lagos as a governor and also establish on the current administration’ s infrastructural achievements.

Mr Tinubu’ s declaration places him among the leading contenders to succeed Mr Buhari, whose presidency expires in May 2023.

Meanwhile, Mr Bello proclaimed his interest in running for the nation’ s top political seat last year, but Mr Osinbajo has not made his ambition known, despite the backing he has received from his colleagues.

OPC Not Among Groups Seeking Support For Tinubu- Spokesman

Despite Tinubu’ s numerous endorsements and appraisals, PREMIUM TIMES reported on January 3 that the O’ odua Peoples Congress (OPC) had disassociated itself from a coalition of 57 Yoruba groups supposedly supporting the South- West pro- restructuring presidential candidate in 2023.

In a statement, OPC Publicity Secretary Yinka Oguntimehin rejected Gani Adams’ role in the mega- agreement, stating such activities were fake and far from the truth.

Mr Oguntimehin challenged the organisations to quit using the OPC name for petty political gain, claiming that the OPC was not among the 57 Yoruba groups that met in Lagos over the weekend to mobilise the South- West for the presidency of Bola Tinubu, Yemi Osinbajo, or Kayode Fayemi.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the OPC was among those behind the mammoth accord of 57 Yoruba civil society groups that gathered recently in Lagos to mobilise the South- West for a pro- restructuring presidential candidate in 2023.

Mr Adewale Adeoye, a journalist, apparently presided over the meeting, and the communiqué published at the end was signed by Sunday Akinnuoye, Femi Agbana, and Ganiat Toriola.

The groups stated that they were aware of presidential aspirants such as Mr Fayemi, Mr Osinbajo, and Mr Tinubu.

They swore that regardless of the party platform, they would ensure that the 2023 presidential election produced a candidate who would reconstruct the country and answer the unresolved National Question.

However, Mr Oguntimehin stated that the OPC, under Mr Adams’ leadership, had never mobilised the organisation for any politician, arguing that the organisation’ s interest extends beyond the 2023 general elections.

He claims that those groups posing as OPC members have no programme or actions to their name.

In another vein, VANGUARD revealed in December last year that a group called The Disciples of Jagaban (DOJ) had threatened to take the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to court if he declined to run for President in 2023.

In an interview with journalists, the National Coordinator of the DOJ, Comrade Abdulhakeem Adegoke, stated that the reason Nigerians had to take Tinubu to court was that the hardship in Nigeria was enough, and they knew Tinubu’ s capability and vision for transformation.

” We know his capacity to change the scenario, his capacity to change things from negative to positive. “

” He has done it in Lagos state which is supposed to be the headquarters of criminals and bandits, but he turned them into good persons.

Politicians from across the North descended on Kaduna on Saturday under the auspices of The Disciples of Jagaban (DOJ) to raise the flag of voter enlightenment to continued voter registration ( CVR).

Comrade Abdulhakeem Adegoke stated that their goal was to increase support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He stated that they decided in 2019 that if Tinubu did not run for President in 2023, they would take him to court.

He stated that the DOJ supports good government and will continue to encourage Nigerians to vote for Tinubu.

” Presently, the DOJ remains the first and the most widely accepted political institution for Tinubu’ s 2023 Presidential ambition. We, however, appreciate all other groups that come after us because we cannot do it alone. , especially with the deluge of resistance and opposition towards our principal, ” he said.
